This fallacy is post hoc ergo propter hoc and appeal to ignorance.

Because he was the only one that died in the accident doesn't mean there's a spiritual cause from his parents, there are cases of a whole family died in an accident and there are cases where no one died, things happen the way it's seen, there is no proof of spiritual causing people's death. Quite being Superstitious, some people just find some imaginary illogical reasons to fill thier ignorance.

You said it took them years for his parents to have him, do you mind telling what they did before they gave birth to him?

I say dey waka you still dey ask me question

don't you know people get children from covens and riverine goddesses .

continue speaking big grammer

many children you see are misbehaving today sometimes its not their choice or fault its what their parents have deeper their hands into.

ask anybody about children gotten from marine world . they are always close to perfect but its either they just die untimely at the peak of their life to cause grief to their parents , or for the lady's they can't get married Or have kids.

I won't argue with you

but I will just ask have you ever had any experience like this ? if not don't argue.

maybe your ancestors served benevolent spirits or your folks are prayerful that's why you can speak big grammer like this

Your heart is in the right place and there's enough food for thought in this comment, but the numbers you're quoting aren't entirely accurate. Not all medical pros are docs and not all docs start at £35k. Even then, as a single, smart, young hustler with a plan to start a biz back in Nigeria, saving £5k from £35k is just brutal. Stay an extra train stop away, get a roommate, don't eat out often, maintain good credit; sacrifice for tomorrow.

Even if for some reason he's only able to save £5k, that's roughly equivalent to his annual Nigerian salary if he saved every kobo (and that's his after-tax income). The experience he'd gain from working within a world class work environment already makes the case more compelling. Then if he can almost start his company while on his Nigerian salary, then certainly he should be able to with his overseas savings.

In the end though, he has to run the numbers himself, with enough room to account for nasty surprises. I may be biased as I don't think Nigerian medics are valued or soundly compensated; but I don't personally know any medical professional in the UK who would come back to take a 200k+ accommodation job in Nigeria.

I agree the numbers are far from the reality, I had to do a wild guess due to limited information, but given the 35k and estimated 5k savings, he could apply that to his actual math. His lifestyle at the end is what determines whether he can double the 5k I estimated. This also all depends on so many factors, for instance, what’s the total government taxes and deductions, plus health insurance premium per paycheck? Let’s say he ends up taking home 55% of his annual income (in this case 20k), this is where his lifestyle comes in. Usually he’s supposed to be able to save up to 50% of his net income but many young people end up spending up to 65% of their net especially when they’re single and not splitting expenses with a partner... living alone in a decent neighborhood, rent + car payment + feeding + utilities + shopping and personal expenses etc.

Lifestyle is the key here. Like you pointed out, there are many ways he can go around stuff if he takes up the job in the U.K... which I think most people would probably do if They were in his shoes.

Good. Since you’re a medical professional and your job is in U.K., from the information you provided I assume that you’ll be earning at least £35,000 before taxes. Depending on your standard of living, taxes, rent and bills etc, you may be able to save up to £5,000 annually. Note that This would be much lower if you had a stay home or student non-working wife and child. If you’re also ambitious you’ll probably see the need to enroll in more study to upgrade your income and level in the organization, and that is your introduction to debt management in form of student loans etc.

This is just a rough estimate and perhaps doesn’t give a near true picture of the reality, but I just want to give you an informed idea of what your decision parameters should be based upon. The fact that the income is much higher does not mean the whole money is all yours to save, not at all. But overall, you’ll have a much better value for your hard work.

As per making money quick and starting your own business, you need to give that time. By the end of the first year, you’ll see how much is in your bank account and you’ll realize that there’s a good reason people went there but didn’t run back quick with trailer load of money after the first year.

All the best as you make the best decision for yourself.

Thanks for your analysis. The pay is actually more than that(pre-tax of course)and iam more concerned about monthly savings than annual savings. Iam meticulous when it comes to money and expenditures. Like I said it offers a better pay, better working condition and a whole lot of experience.

You’re welcome. Your decision should be pretty obvious in that case then, so what’s holding you back from a seemingly obvious choice, if I may ask?

I Need Serious Advice On The Path To Tow

I am currently confused right now on what to do. I need advice.

I got this job that pays 200k+ a month plus a decent accommodation. Iam very good at my job and I have been planning on opening my own. As a matter of fact I have planned to start buying the equipments needed for the company by October. Although if everything goes as planned the company would begin operation by middle of next year. I also have the intention of combining my job and running the company(it's no big deal). However I ran into this sure link of getting a very high paid job abroad. The link is legit and very sure, all I have to do is accept and I will leave ASAP but my problem here is that my parents wokldolet me step out of the country cause I'm their only son. I needed the abroad job as it would boost my income and enable me achieve what I had planned. If I should follow my initial plan the company would run on a small scale. However, with the fund from the away job I could get enough money to go into full business.

Iam thinking of defying them and go ahead with the abroad plan. But one mind is telling me to hold onto my initial plan.

Please what do I do?

Ps I have already been offered the job abroad all I have to do is to accept it. And I don't have much time left.

I need sincere inputs
Negative comments are welcomed too

Why travelling abroad when you have a good job and opportunity to start your business?? Have you considered if you're duped in the process. My brother there's no high paying job abroad for a blackman and for Nigerian for that matter!! I have been there before, my uncle has been there for more than 30 years and it's still counting... Thank you sir
I have a great relationship with my parents but they have there fears- that I may go there and not return and worst still marrying a white woman lol
I have tried to convince them but to no avail

This is one thing I unfortunately hate about our parents. As if Nigerian girls or African girls are better than white girls. I tell people, we are more racist than the whites. Given the same opportunity, we will be more cruel and racist towards them. Imagine one my big friend in Naija saying, no marry Oyinbo woman oo..As if marrying African woman guarantees anything.

I normally have hot debates with anyone who claims it's a death sentence to marry a white woman..And by the way, a successful white woman will hardly marry a nobody black male from one place in Africa.

Meanwhile, to your questions, I can give some insights, but I would need to know the level of your academic achievements in Nigeria. If you have a solid achievement at BSc level, and things go bad in the "sure job" abroad, then you can still find your way and be successful. I cannot begin to count how many Nigerians are doing well abroad, but many of them had solid academic degrees from Nigeria and then came abroad to expand themselves.

Finally, it will depend on the abroad you're talking about. If it's Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and similar places, my theory above will not work..

200K is a good salary in Nigeria. I was earning around that, 240K, in Nigeria before I left some years ago. I struggled abroad while studying but now, I've stabilized..I took that risk because I knew I could always fall back on my education..

@donsiqua thank you for sharing your story. Before you get a balanced advise, it would require more information. You started well by stating that the job pays 200k. My questions are:

1. What’s your profession? I mean what’s your expertise? Electrical engineer? Software programmer? Etc.
2. What country abroad? Ghana, Dubai, UK, US, Spain? Abroad pass abroad you know
3. What is the title of the job abroad? Dishwasher, Customer support, Elementary Teacher, Level 2 Electrical Engineer? Just examples
4. How much is the job abroad?
5. Are you single?
6. What’s your motivation for planning to travel abroad? Do you want to migrate permanently eventually? I ask because you mentioned you’re the only son.

Finally, you mentioned something about making money to start your own business. This is a good thought, however, note that you’ll hardly make enough money to start your own business and nurture it especially when you have rent and bills to pay and family to support, if that’s your only major motivation for going abroad, think again. Usually people save for many years (at least 10 years or more) before quitting their jobs to start a business from their savings especially if you still lived with your parents or didn’t start your own family immediately.

On a side note, there are benefits of living and working abroad (depending on the abroad is) including getting access to better healthcare, infrastructure, higher education and better standard of living.

Indeed, more information is required. Because abroad can be hard, no matter what anybody tells you. Which country him wan go, wetin be him qualifications, etc..He needs think on both sides. If things go wrong in the job abroad, what will happen. That is the second side..

By the way, this argument of not allowing first son leave Nigeria was what led someone I know into marrying in Nigeria. Long story short, he has indirectly complained that he made a mistake marrying, and I have always told him - you must love your wife and settle things with her. She didn't force you to marry, na you wan marry, as per first son....There are always consequences. We that we are not married, we are facing the consequences, good and bad...

It is better for you with 200k and good free accommodation plus having your own business coming up later...forget traveling into a foreign man's land where you don't know what to meet up with but settle down here first with your family, have a very good savings and invest so much for stream of incomes and you will have a very good life to retire on and you can have your holidays abroad...

Madam Aunty, you cannot tell him to forget abroad now grin. haha. You don't know his achievements and quality. Abroad might be better for him, you know. I agree staying in Nigeria might be his optimal decision, but we need to know some more things about him to be able to predict which one may better for him to forget.

In my own case, similar to his but not same, staying in Nigeria possibly would not have gotten me close to half of what my life turned out to be. I had 4-5 job offers 3 months before leaving..Some of these were companies I was "begging" to work for just some years earlier..I ignored all of them. Although some expressed fears, everything turned out well.

So, madam aunty, this abroad vs Naija stuff depends on the person, it is idiosyncratic, lol..It also depends on the abroad. If the abroad is Saudi, unless it' Aramco (even sef, this place no too nice again), I won't suggest he takes it..

But we need more info from him, to give better pieces of advice/

You can say this because you're not faced with fantastic options.

By the grace of God, you will have fantastic options, then you will see..But as I said before, Nigeria is optimal for some people. it depends on the individual.

I agree to get parents blessings. I also need parents to be considerate and exercise less fear. On this one, I am also talking to my future self. Too much unnecessary care and fear from parents sometimes ruin children. I've examples to back this up. The same parents will later turn back and tell the child - see your mates, what have you done wit your life. It's so painful I have seen and heard this happen...

Boy OP, educate your parents, seek their blessings and let them know it's God that saves, not too much care. One cannot be too careful.

I post on this question many times because the question sounds very familiar to me and my experience..

Lord Adam, I completely agree with your logic.

But we don't know the abroad he is talking about, and OP has not told us about the abroad.

If the job is in the US/UK/Canada/AUS, and he the OP has a decent academic qualification from Nigeria, then in my human mind, and unless there is a divine prophecy advising otherwise, I would leave the naija job and grab the abroad job.

People automatically become competitive having worked abroad, competitive abroad oo...And the OP's business plans, as you rightly said, can be easily achieved with working abroad. He can save more, in Naira terms...Imagine as a student just some years ago, I was a lecturer at a nearby college and earning 25 pounds per hour..Per month, it came to 1200 pounds. With this meagre money, all due respect to the money because I needed it then, I was doing "big" things in Nigeria, lol.

Wow, UK job from Nigeria. Impressive. Many Nigerians there are hoping to earn even 20K. 35K in the UK, even in London, is not bad oo. My guy was earning 60K at one of those banks some years ago. He lived in with this Cameroonian couples, paid house rent of 300-400 pounds per month, living expenses and other costs of 300 pounds per month..So, max per month was less than 1K. He was easily saving 1,800 pounds per month. is that not 700K Naira savings per month or 8.4 million per year? Lol. How does one make this in Nigeria easily?

So, I agree, as the OP has plans, the lifestyle is so important. Spend less, save more. If it's the UK, I agree with the go ahead because 4 years experience in a place paying over 35K in the UK means if he returns to Nigeria, starts a business but fails (yes, most businesses fail), then he will be competitive enough to find another job in Nigeria if he is good and his work experience is solid.

Is that not high paying, even in the US.

My final word is that if someone is quality in Nigeria and decides to improve themselves abroad, they're very likely to succeed. All this no job for blackman is NOT TRUE!@!!!

I cannot begin to tell you how many Nigerians earn well in tech and finance. Google Harding Loevner and the Nigerian guy there. You will understand. Many, many of them.

That's why I tell Nigerian boys and girls, if na book you wan take chop big time, abeg try blast, be exceptional or outstanding or at least try dey good. There are opportunities, plenty, plenty, in Nigeria and abroad.
