Please nairalanders I need you guys to share your views on how lucrative you think the transportation sector is, especially the gurus in the business.

I'm thinking of buying a fairly used Toyota Hiace bus which costs about 3.5 million naira and I think it's a fair deal considering the profit I think I'll be making every day.

The bus should have 18 seats so that gives me 18,000 naira per trip, I'm thinking of plying interstate from port-Harcourt to Bayelsa which costs 1 thousand naira per person.

Therefore, if I can be able to make 4 trips in a day that gives me about 72000 naira returns everyday, giving me about 2.1 million naira per month.

Pardon me... I just did this little mathematics out of naivety as I do not really know the complexity of the transport sector, that is why i need your views, opinions and advice so that I don't hurt myself in the end.

However, if everything is as it seems then I think I would have to invest massively in the transport sector smiley

thank you for your contribution

I actually intend to drive it myself for some time so that I can understand the internal workings of the business before I hire a driver which should be trustworthy in any case.

Also, do you happen to know the cost of the tickets that are bought from the union?...and I think standard buses from standard car parks don't settle the police, I feel settling is meant for the danfo buses

Oga tissue paper I hail oh!!!

So the bus won't break down...agbero will not collect there cut....police will not take there own...After work, you'll now tell your conductor "thank you oh...come on time tomorrow" and above all you will be running your bus on solar... Oga do the math again

Lol at your projections.

First of all, before you commit one Naira go to some of the parks where you intend loading to see if 4 trips a day is feasible.

I highly doing it is. You have not factored in fuelling and maintenance costs too as various Union costs.

However whatever you do make sure you get insurance for your bus.

Even without driving it yourself the transport sector is still lucrative. After iyare and God is good don't drive their buses themselves.

Enjoy

fuel, maintenance, sorting, and empty seats. Factor these into the equation.

d cost of ticket can't b dat much just plan to sacrifice 2-4k for them daily n another thing is dat it's not likely u go 4 trips in a day due to passenger patronage, hold up in case of accidents or robbery or fatigue from u or a times some mechanical fault.just estimate 2 per day n don't plan to give it to anyhow person whenever u are about to hire a driver

Lol. I used to do naive maths like this. First, fuel will take up to 30% per trip. Agbero will claim 10% or more depending on where you are. Vehicle will spoil. Repairs can claim one week earnings. Vehicle cannot be always fUll. Or else, everyone go be driver. The worst thing that can happen us when your business break down inside bush. Terrible experience. I ommited risk of accidents

Very lucrative
Re: How Lucrative Is The Transportation Sector?? by engwari(f): 6:51pm On Oct 01, 2018
Very lucrative if only
1. You are the driver of the bus, they will finish you.
Don't be surprised that the driver will tell you he is not driving your bus/car again in less than a year, because he has bought his own bus with your money.

2. Except you be ready to arrest and re-arrest even after signing undertaken.Aside that those crazy drivers and motorboy will milk you dry, except at some point you're ready to become heartless by paying extra to arrest those cheats and keep them behind bars for as long as it takes for their families to cough-out stolen fun

3. If you are the driver
Be warned.

Brother, the transport business is very lucrative if, and only if, you drive your vehicle yourself. I owned a sharan minibus about a year ago, and I can confidently tell you that I made about 10,000 naira daily travelling from Kano to Abuja (Zuba) and back. This figure is after fuel, union, men in black, and meals are accounted for. I placed myself on a daily salary of 3,000 naira while 7,000 was kept for business expansion. I lost the vehicle barely two months after buying it when my brother condemned it in an accident due to recklessness. Transportation is good, lucrative and without chains from bosses if you manage it yourself. But if you get a driver, that person can ruin you completely. I learnt this lesson the hard way. Now am back to square zero (unemployed) because my NYSC savings was what I used to buy the vehicle.

OK I'm back, pay close attention to this...

Handling your transport business yourself will be very lucrative.
But your calculation no follow at all...

Put into consideration the followings:

Fuel per to-fro trip

Servicing of engine every week or two

Numbers of week, that 4 brand new tyres can carry you(good tyres can carry up-to 6months)

Brake Pads every two weeks(can be relative)

Union fee

Wears and tears each week(reserve like 20k). You might be lucky to go weeks without repairs, if you have a good bus

And:
like you said, understand the "intestines" of the business in your area before handing any bus to anyone, else you'll be shooting yourself some RPG missiles.

Let me add this, why not buy 2004-2007 Toyota sienna clean title tokunbo or relatively clean and shuttle Port Harcourt to Lagos.
Thank me later..
