Hurray! My AfriOne is ONE
A tool of immeasurable value you’re
In the hand of Michael

You came at a time
That I needed you the most
And ever since I got hold of you
You’ve been adding value to me career wise
You’ve helped sharpen my employability
With loads of educative apps
That was preloaded

With you I have gained a lot
Aside the knowledge I have acquired
At my place of Primary Assignment
I have been able to Complete;

Series of online courses to include;
Public Health Interventions in Pandemics & Endemics
Ebola: Clinical management of Ebola virus disease
Emergency Preparedness course and more
Via OpenWHO platform

As a lover of ICT
Learning Analytics, Online presence & others
You afforded me the opportunity to enroll
In Google Digital Skills for Africa


I enrolled for UN Volunteer Corps
Equally, AU Youth Volunteer Corps twice
When candidates were shortlisted
Fate doesn’t smile at me

All the above through you
I wouldn’t have achieved this feat
But for the 750MB data that rolls in freely
On monthly basis into the great MTN sim
That was attached to you from onset

Oh! My AfriOne
You have enough memory space (32GB)
To contain so many E-Books I have downloaded
Info-graphics tutorials and lots of Audio Visual Trainings
Are still in you for me to read over and over again
I will not like to miss them all

A 6000mAh battery that drains not quickly
Makes it possible for you to be used for long time
You have 1.3Ghz Quad Core Processor
That keeps you speeding like a rocket.
Doing the magic always

I typed numerous projects
And made changes to my Resume
At the comfort of my palm anytime anywhere
Given your magnetic Keyboard
(Which make you 2in1)

My AfriOne!
To me, you are not just a tool
For only social media purposes
But a veritable tool of work and learning
‘Cos I know your worth and value

I intentionally chose you
During our device selection
After careful examinations of the nine options
Just because you were proudly made
With love in my dear country
Nigeria

Who will I thank?
Who will I thank??
Who and who will I thank
If not GOD, The Almighty

At this dare time of your need
Who through President Muhammad Buhari (GCFR)
The Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces
Federal Republic of Nigeria
Gave you to me

In the face of this harsh economy
He kept on paying my monthly stipend
Of Thirty Thousand Naira (#30,000)
To cushion its effects

Though it tarry sometimes
For two or three months in-between if am correct
‘As a result of technical issues anyway’
But it surely came

After reading this poem of mine
For my AFRIONE @ 1
And within you
You’re saying

What is wrong with this bitch?
Is it more than just to volunteer?
“Abi Omo Oju o r’Ola ri ni eleyi ni”?
(Is he that poor and wretched?)
Why appreciate this meager?
And many more questions
Popping in your mind
I don’t give a bleep
I say thank You!

May I quickly take you down memory lane?
Many of us started this N-Power journey
But not all could made it this far
Do you belief that?

I graduated Ten (10) years ago
I mean ten good years ago, no mistake
Without the taste of any Government offer
Truly, many of my mates have gone ahead of me
While many have secured befitting employment
Some even immediately after we graduated
Permit me to remind you here too
That some are no more today
But here I am, writing poem
To the glory of God
For his gift of life

I shall rise again
And I shall write again
Probably in another dimension
As N-Power batch 1 nears exit
In couple of weeks time
I will write Again
