Out of curiousity and a disturbed mind, I was discussing with my colleague why we do not have something like ebay in nigeria. Don't we have developers that can develop a secured auction site in nigeria, not like tokunbo. com whose goods are even more expensive than those in the market, with a good pricing scheme and high security, I always envy ebay and want to buy things from there but to no avail, let someone come up with one abeg

It would be difficult to accomplish something like ebay in Nigeria for the obvious security reasons.
e.g. Despite the constant investment into online security by ebay dot com, we still have tons of episodes of fraud, theft etc.
People create bogus ebay and paypal accounts, list items for sale which are non existent and simply varnish into the thin air.
To curb this, ebay and paypal Uk now carry out electoral roll validation to confirm new members addresses and would sometimes ask for copies of photo id and utility bill to be sent through. The purpose of this is to identify you and trace you in the event that you act dishonestly.
The biggest problem with a 9ja version would be how to validate and track people down. The site would need to build trust so as to encourage more buyers and users to the site. This is what paypal and ebay have achieved by offering a buyer's protection in the event of item not received.
I am not being negative cos you can have an ebay equivalent in 9ja but whether it would be popular and secure remains a doubt.

I quite understand ur point, but is it not possible to have a situation, due to the high rate of coruption in d country, for sellers to take their products to a particular centre, which will be the company such as ebay, whenever they have a bidder for the product and the buyer will als be scheduled to come on that day to receive the product after making payments to the company,
What do u think?
