Its not surprising osinbade had to lie, everything about APC revolves on lies, Buhari said subsidy is a scam but today he is paying subsidies while denying so, on a final note like someone already said we need to apologize to GEJ, he saw the future but sentiments and lies didn't allow Nigerians see road.

The only thing this deluded mind failed to tell us is what subsidy money removed is used for. Upon removal of subsidy things are still difficult for common man. Probably what is removed is partial subsidy as stated by petroleum minister. With subsidy and corruption, Gej built 14 university, now with Mr integrity nothing to show even with removal of subsidy. All of u will surely rot in hell.
Some of his supporters will come here to spill out disgusting thrash from their mouth

The debate moderator is a mediocre just like anything Nigeria. In serious nations, they research the candidates, their speeches, etc and use such to ask them questions during debates. The many lies of Buhari's people would have been exposed. Heck! They could even had asked Obi about his one watch and houses brouhaha.

The central theme ought to be: To know why the VP feels like they deserve another term while the onus is on others to prove otherwise. Instead what they gave sounded like a secondary school debate.

I hope the Presidential debate will be organized better and centered on key issues: Corruption, electricity, employment, education, agriculture, technology, failed promises, certificates, etc. Asking debaters same old boring questions to afford them the opportunity to throw out fictitious numbers is a collosal waste of everyone's time.

To those asking for Presidential debate. Why? Would anyone understand what Buhari will be mumbling? It has better come with closed captioning done by an educated Fulani who can translate for mortals like us.

How does Osinbajo becoming the president help the life o that market woman out there?

Do u know my happiness.. Yorubas and northerners have ruled this country over and over again, yet the country can not compete with ordinary south Africa or north African countries...
At least I'm happy no one will come out and say igbos ruled didn't achieve anything for the country.

Na westerners and northerners single handedly destroyed nigeria. Maybe the two regions don't av good IQ to lead and develop a country.

Even Optimally If Our refineries working, it will still be like 40% of what we consume. So you knew this all this while, and to build refineries that will sustain us in the country is a problem for them, rather they will support individual like Dangote to build refinery and dictate for a whole country, what the useless clueless government can not do. Is subsidy inevitable or what? We can do without paying any subsidies. Because other countries like America subsidies their Agricultural produce as claimed by Osibanjo, does not mean we should copy everything done in the western world. How long does it take to build new refineries?

Edodefender:
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has finally broken his silence on the controversy currently trailing the removal of subsidy from fuel.

Nigerians have been lamenting following the announcement of the deregulation of the oil sector, which jerked the price of the product from N86 to N145 per litre.

Reacting to the development, the Vice President stated that the best thing that could happen to the nation was the bold step taken by the President to remove subsidy from the product.

In a statement issued on Friday, Osinbajo explained why the presidency decided to take the ‘harsh’ decision, which would eventually benefit Nigerians.

His statement reads in full:

“I have read the various observations about the fuel pricing regime and the attendant issues generated. All certainly have strong points.

“The most important issue of course is how to shield the poor from the worst effects of the policy. I will hopefully address that in another note.

“Permit me an explanation of the policy. First, the real issue is not a removal of subsidy. At $40 a barrel there isn’t much of a subsidy to remove.

“In any event, the President is probably one of the most convinced pro-subsidy advocates.

“What happened is as follows: our local consumption of fuel is almost entirely imported. The NNPC exchanges crude from its joint venture share to provide about 50% of local fuel consumption. The remaining 50% is imported by major and independent marketers.

“These marketers up until three months ago sourced their foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria at the official rate. However, since late last year, independent marketers have brought in little or no fuel because they have been unable to get foreign exchange from the CBN.

“The CBN simply did not have enough. (In April, oil earnings dipped to $550 million. The amount required for fuel importation alone is about $225million!).

“Meanwhile, NNPC tried to cover the 50% shortfall by dedicating more export crude for domestic consumption. Besides the short term depletion of the Federation Account, which is where the FG and States are paid from, and further cash-call debts pilling up, NNPC also lacked the capacity to distribute 100% of local consumption around the country. Previously, they were responsible for only about 50%. (Partly the reason for the lingering scarcity).

“We realised that we were left with only one option. This was to allow independent marketers and any Nigerian entity to source their own foreign exchange and import fuel. We expect that foreign exchange will be sourced at an average of about N285 to the dollar, (current interbank rate). They would then be restricted to selling at a price between N135 and N145 per litre.

“We expect that with competition, more private refineries, and NNPC refineries working at full capacity, prices will drop considerably. Our target is that by Q4 2018 we should be producing 70% of our fuel needs locally. At the moment even if all the refineries are working optimally they will produce just about 40% of our domestic fuel needs.

“You will notice that I have not mentioned other details of the PPRA cost template. I wanted to focus on the cost component largely responsible for the substantial rise, namely foreign exchange. This is therefore not a subsidy removal issue but a foreign exchange problem, in the face of dwindling earnings.”

APC/buhari did not care there was going to be any negative effect resulting from this poor policy. They did not bother about how the poor masses, on whose support they rode to win the 2015 election, would suffer.
Painfully, even after removing the subsidy and jacking up the pump price, subsidy payment is still ongoing.
#buhari/osinbajo must be voted out, they are very insensitive and inhumane.

My brother.. Who be president no concern me. Pls don't think everyone here is after ethnic sentiment..

Anyone who rules Nigeria will not change much. I know some of u value nairaland likes so much. I value money and progress I make in life. Not this nairaland likes.

So who is the president doesn't concern me. They don't pay my bills. I make my cash in $$$. So I practically don't care who rules Nigeria. And the end goal is to leave the country and settle down there with my baby.

U guys can continue to joke here over ethnic sentiments.

I better remind u that political appointments are not dividend of democracy.

I think a lot of Nigerians are guilty of ignorance in this issue of subsidy. The FG did not increase fuel price to N145. They simply put a cap on the price, above which no marketer is allowed to sell!
Fast forward 2years and the FG through the NNPC is now the only importer of petrol. Why? Because the other importers pulled out because they couldn't get forex to import. Even if they did, they would be selling at a loss because the N145 cap is still there while the price of oil has more than tripled from $30 in 2016 to $60 today. The NNPC is importing petrol at a massive loss and offsets this loss by using NLNG dividends to augment it's books.
The FG cannot transfer the tripled cost of petrol to the people at N220 because it simply won't fly! That is why the NNPC is still taking this loss/subsidy.
This kind of subsidy is very different from the PDP subsidy where there was plenty of forex for marketers to import products, but they would import very little and fraudulently claim they imported millions of litres of petrol or not import anything at all and yet get paid by the PDP led government.
The Nigerian media is very guilty of not letting Nigerians know exactly how this petrol subsidy works and how different it is from the PDP subsidy! This is something that affects everybody's life in Nigeria and judging from the comments here, Nigerians don't know anything about it! It's shameful!
The Nigerian media is complete Junk! I

Bros subsidy was a scam under Jonathan because Jonathan gave the likes of Razak Arekesola and Bamanga tukur millions of $USD to import nothing in the name of subsidy. It was a massive fraud!
Today's subsidy doesn't pay anyone to import anything. The NNPC does 100% of the importation. Nobody is getting any free money again for doing nothing. That's the big difderence.
I bet you the fist thing the Atiku PDP will do if they come in is to strìp the NNPC of sole importation right and start paying people again to defraud Nigeria. I pity anyone that supports those gluttons.
