Exactly. ASUU has become a very useless body and a thorn in the flesh of Nigerians. Wasting precious time of Nigerian students.

Imagine ASUU demanding N3trillion funding in 2009 for Universities alone (excluding primary and secondary schools, polytechnics, etc.), when the federal budget for the same year was N3trillion . So govt should abandon all sectors and salaries of workers to improve universities only. sad
They embark on long, needless strike actions and govt is coerced into making agreements just to end the strike, then they later accuse govt of not fulfilling near impossible agreements.

ASUU or whatever you call yourselves...Can Nigerian universities develop faster than the country? Should we abandon roads, rails, electricity, etc. for university funding alone so that ASUU members can die on bad roads?

The issue is majorly about an agreement with ASUU signed by the FG in 2011 and revalidated in 2017. The FG is still to implement the agreement and made no provision to implement it even in the 2019 budget.

I think the FG is more irresponsible than ASUU. Thr interest of ASUU is the improved standard of education in Nigeria. Yet the FG kept establishing new higher institutions without concrete plan for funding, improvement and standardization of existing ones.

Tell me: who is the culprit?

My heart bleeds for parents who can't afford to sponsor their children into private universities given the sorry state of our public universities coupled with FG's insensitivity.

Can ASUU make those their demands public so the average Nigerian will know exactly what they are 'striking' for?

Hiding under 'poor funding of Universities' for selfish interest.

You people should continue to stay at home!

Do you truly believe that? Do you have the actual understanding of that agreement?
Are you aware that one of the things they are fighting is for their members to retire at 70? And other requests mostly for their benefits?

For the Federal Government to release money to ASUU, the should first institute forensic audit of the Universities accounts. The University collect money for infrastructural development every year, without any result.

Education is the bedroom of any society. If we don't get right other sectors wouldn't work well hence pumping more money into it might be useless

My guy, the "70 years retirement age" issue has been treated and done already:
https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/5099-jonathan_signs_law_raising_dons_retirement.html

I strongly believe that the interest of ASUU is ultimately the improved standard of education in Nigeria. Kindly provide evidence that the advocacy of ASUU, that resulted to the strike, is self-serving.

The bolded not true. It is already effective that many lecturers can retire at that age.

Why will you honour FG calls again, when you people(ASUU) ar agents of the opposition. How much did Atiku paid ASUU leadership for all these? You will see that when Buhari is returned to power after the elections, they will make a U-turn and will start begging for FG calls again!

Seriously,Mango is growing inside your head...Any nation that didn't take their education serious is bound to fail and the typical example of that is Nigeria....Check every nation doing well, economically and otherwise and look @the their educational sector, you'll be marvelled with the speed of their development!!!China is about to take over the world today, is because of what their government spend in education just to make their people developed and compete with other nations like U.S and U.K,China has the highest number of their people schooling in foreign nations...Do you know why??Because they have a plan to overtake the US, but their only problem now is their currency......

I'm not a student again, but I can tell you that the actions of our leaders is the reason why the country is in this sorry state!!!Education is the key to the development of any nation.....The reverse is the case in nija, whether ASUU is fighting for their stomach or for the student, the need is their to meet,My brother in the next 20years or more to come...I swear you and I know that we might not send our kids to public university again, Cuz the sorry state will be unexplainable

Who signed the deal in the first place and refused to honor it

Jonathan's government signed it and committed #200billion in a space of a year and some months towards fulfilling the agreement. Buhari has refused to commit a dime since the past 4years! That is the problem! I'm sure if Buhari had committed an equivalent of what Jonathan gave towards the agreement this strike wouldn't have come up.

I don't think you know what you're saying. The only reason we see little development in our universities today is because of these their agitations. I agree that they also have their personal interest at heart, but you can not totally call what they are agitating for useless. Mind you, the FG always needs a push before they can do anything. If ASUU stays dormant without acting, then the decay in our universities would be beyond measures.

''Law should be made to restrict the children of politicans from schooling abroad''. Abeg who are those to make the laws?

Y'all should just forget it, this country is finished, all we know how to do is hope and pray, and the Bible says prayer without work is DEAD.

iceboy4752:
Will it cost the FG lives just to pay ASUU and call off the strike? The money is there to pay, but no, they still remain recaltricant. I think Laws should be made to restrict the children of politicans from schooling abroad. This will make them know how we feel when they're not willing to improve the education sector. Remember that you'll never fully understand someone's situation unless you're in their shoes.
