Pop singer Miley Cyrus has confirmed she and Liam Hemsworth have tied the knot in a series of touching Instagram photos.

The couple married over the weekend in the company of family and friends, including Miley parents Trish and Billy Ray Cyrus.

The Wrecking Ball singer posted a series of black and white photos of the newlyweds all dressed up, herself in a long white gown and Hemsworth with a gold band on his ring finger.

Rumours that the couple had tied the knot began circling on Christmas Day after images of the two cutting what appeared to be a wedding cake surrounded by family and friends surfaced on social media.

The couple first met on the set of The Last Song in 2009. They quickly began dating and became engaged in 2012 but called it off and stayed broken up for a few years.
