Hi nairaland Family,

kindly help out, i had to create this alternative moniker because I'm widely known here with my other moniker.

I'm a female nairalander, today is really a black Thursday for me. I have lost total Focus and concentration, very depressed at the moment. I'm diagnosed with HIv positive, being crying since morning. the worst part of it is, i'm a virgin, had never sex with any man in my entire life. I was advised to start taking medications immediately...

doctors and well experienced nairalanders in the house, will this medication prolong my life? will it cost me expenses? or the HIV will one day turn to AIDS despite the medication? I'm deeply confused!

kindly help push this to the front page, God bless you all!

Thornàpple is that you?

Anyways, Do what they asked you to do and you'll live normal life....

Please this is not a death sentence at all, I will advice you do a 2nd and 3rd check in a reputable diagnostic center.
However, you can still ensure you start out with organic supplements rather than medications to boost your immunity. It's a viral diseases that ravages the immune system. Boosting it is key to enjoying good health.

HIV is not a death sentence. I don't know of anybody on ARV who died of it. Take your medications religiously and live your life.

You can also join Positive support groups.

Have you being transfused with blood before? Where was the diagnosis made? How was it made?
If at all your HIV diagnosis is confirmed, don't worry yourself to much. Medications would help you live a close to normal life, and is free across most public health facilities in the country

Don't be confused... Start taking your meds as soon as possible, you will live longer and healthier, HIV is not a death sentense as there are worse cases than Hiv, thank God you know your status on time,

The aim of taking drugs is to keep your CD4+ cell count normal.. if these counts are normal you can never have AIDS... As these drugs will prevent your CD4+ cells from being infected and possibly reducing your viral load.

The next thing you should do is start taking fruits and vegetables that will boost your immunity to function well.. eat healthy..

Note: i am not a doctor but a medical.biochemist
The doctors here will give more advice.

you are absolutely right bro,let me just add few points here
1.Sexual intercourse is not the only route of HIV transmission, although it's the commonest, others are; Mother to child transmission, blood transfusion ( HIV infected), sharing of sharp objects, etc
2.HIV/ AIDS is never a scam but a reality however some people are naturally immuned against the virus as they lack the receptor for the virus but u can't sure u are so be careful, abstinence is d best otherwise practise safe sex.
3.ARV helps to gradually increase your CD4 cell count which are the solders of the body, and also gradually reduce the viral load up to a level it may be undetectable when u are screened.
Although it may be initially challenging, I strongly advise you to comply with your medications and live a healthy lifestyle. Pls share up as you are not going to be limited by the disease, remember researchers are working day and night to get a cure, and with God all things are possible.
4.You can live a super normal life with HIV, you can get married, have children without the risk of transmitting the disease, just visit your doctor and you will be adequately counselled and educated accordingly.
God bless you real good my sister.Share up,because you have God by your side,we have doctors, nurses and other professionals who live positively with it.

Having had almost 7 yes experience in HIV/AIDS C&T,let me submit as follows;
1.There are many other means one can contract HIV apart from sex but sex is the commonest among female folks.
2.Have you covered the window.period? If not wait for it and do the test again. If yes,go to other facility for another test.If two to threw diff. facilities confirm it positive. Then, you fave the reality by faith in God.
3.Check d possible medium of contracting it-blood transfusion, sharp objects etc Avoid them to reduce its viral.load.
4.Take all the medications and precautions as advises by doctors.
5.Join a support group.
6.Pray and hope in God's miracle.
It is not a death sentence if you follow rules.Don't be angry with God to.now.live a reckless life.Someone could have said what's d essence of being a virgin and then start living waywardly. NO.Be positive and prayerful. You can still.marry and have babies without them being contracted.Your care providers know what to do. Take heart

A teenage girl I know very well has lived with it for several years without knowing, it was discovered at an almost late stage when she started falling sick, but today she's happier and even healthier than ever because of the meds. Just keep it to yourself and be consistent with your meds, you might never even fall sick again as your immune system will become more resistant to common diseases.
Note that the teenage girl was a virgin, a test was done to confirm it, because I personally took her to the hospital.

If you are indeed a virgin, go for the test in another standard lab preferably, government hospital affiliate
just to be sure.
The chance of contracting HIV from non-sexual routes is very slim, safe for mother to child transmission.

Now about the drugs. You can live a normal and healthy life if you follow medical advice and take
your medications. Of course, there are inconveniences involved, but you will get used to it with time.
Stay healthy!

I totally agree she can go for another check, however slim is not impossible. One can be the 1 in a case that has 1/1000000 probability. Reason we need to be vigilant, to watch and pray.

my dear sister, don't want you to lose hope, people contract hiv through other ways too, and sharp objects infected and unsterilised can cause an infection, not only sex, I want you to know it's not the end of the world, you can use this as an advantage and be positive about it, hiv is not a death sentence, you my dear can still find love and even concieve amongst other things you can achieve, just make sure you use your drugs regularly and stay healthy.
