I do not blame Ethiopia air. This is a brand new aircraft. Only 4months old and the pilot has over 8000 hours of flight. Planes over 20 years old are still flying. I hope Boeing fixes this 737 Max. 2 crashes in a space of 8 months is too much. I hope they ground all 737 max 8 till they know what is going on..

Plane was only 4 months old, second crash of these new 737 Max Boeing Airplanes within months, is it too early to conclude that it's down to some kind of factory fault? I don't know, but RIP to all those poor souls. Sad

Two days ago, a senseless pilot of a plane coming in from America announced to passengers to brace for a crash landing because the plane was running out of aviation fuel and may not be enough for the plane to reach the airport in Lagos.

This caused the passengers to panic and a particular woman had her BP rise so high. Annoyingly but fortunately, the plane made it to the airport in one piece but unfortunately, the woman died before they could get her to the hospital.

Some airline pilots like to mess with the minds of their passengers. I recall a flight I boarded that had just taken off from Frankfurt, on a bright clear morning blessed with blue skies and visibility for hundreds of miles.

Ten minutes into the flight, the pilot announced that everyone should belt up and prepare for heavy turbulence. Baffled as to why turbulence could be expected when there was not a cloud in sight, as I scanned the peaks of the Swiss Alps below us, I asked a cabin attendant how turbulence would be possible in such fine weather, since I had never up until that point encountered or even heard of heavy turbulence in clear skies.

The flight attendant evidently informed the flight crew that a passenger was asking nervous questions about turbulence, because the next announcement over the PA was that passengers should prepare for MAJOR, SUSTAINED and EXTREME turbulence. Not yet realizing I was probably already the butt of jokes on the flight deck, I proceeded to freak out quietly in my seat without showing outward signs that could result in me getting grappled by security and hog tied for the rest of the flight.

Now here is the kicker. There was absolutely NO turbulence whatsoever on that entire Lufthansa flight, from takeoff to landing, and it was on that day that I concluded that SOME air crews play practical jokes to relieve the boredom of their jobs. The episode was far from amusing in my view that day, but it at least served as a lesson that cockpit announcements to commercial airline passengers are sometimes made for purely mischievous reasons, and should therefore not be allowed to trigger panic.

Just a few months ago, an identical brand new Boeing 737 max, owned by Lion Air, crashed in Indonesia, killing all aboard. Air crash investigators released preliminary findings that assigned blame for the crash, on some new changes made to the automated flight protection code, which allowed the aircraft's auto pilot to over-ride the pilot's manual control inputs, and point the aircraft nose-DOWN, as would be required to recover from a stall, when the wings lose lift.

The pilots of the Lion Air Boeing 737 Max had NOT been re-trained to flip a single switch that would have disengaged that safety feature, in the event that it tried to take control of the plane at the WRONG time, namely when there was NO danger of a stall. That failure of the airline company to adequately train their flight crews about how to quickly disable the new stall-protection autopilot response, directly caused the fatal crash.

It is too early to say whether the Boeing 737 Max that went down today was also a victim of the same autopilot error that doomed the Lion Air flight so recently. Certainly, the true cause of this crash will come to light in due course, as investigators continue their work at the crash site, and analyse the flight data recorders that are recovered there.

Hey Jakumo, I was aware of the Lion Air tragedy but not the details, thanks for the information. Now we just wait for the results of the investigation

Too early but that's the second Boeing 737 Max brand new plane crashing in less than 6months of purchase.

And both were shortly after take off. That of Lion Air and now this.

I hope it's not the same issue of stalling during thrust else Boeing is in for a lot of trouble. It is unheard of for a new plane to crash due to technical faults and if that's the case here that's a lot troubling.

Condolences to the families
If what u said is correct then there is something wrong with the design of the plane.

Dear Lord! This is so sad! With Ethiopian airlines we thought Africans are getting it right finally. Kai! I can't help but imagine what their last second thoughts were, this is very sad. Almost peed my panties last month as we got to Indian Ocean and all signal was lost, mad turbulence for more than two hours, frightening looks on the faces of the crew members, I said my last prayer and the only thing on my mind was what my family was doing at the moment.
Up there, life isnt really life. RIP to those poor people, and more especially, I wish their loved once the fortitude to bear this heartbreaking loss.

Shut up, ignorant self-hater. ''The whites'' call you ''monkeys'' because they were brainwashed by their elite at the height of the slave trade into regarding the enslaved Africans as inferior beings in order to justify the barbaric treatment of the said Africans, which is what gave rise to the phenomenon of racism. Ok? It has nothing to do with you or your supposed shortcomings. Now get rid of your inferiority complex and quit polluting the thread with ignorance.

Noted this particular crash is seemingly manufacturer related.
Still, Ethiopian airlines has one of the worst flying records of major airlines
So caution is necessary

When was the last Ethiopian airlines plane crash, you f.u.cking BASTARD?

I can tell you when. 2010.

Before that? 1996.

How does that translate to ''one of the worst flying records''?

Let me use your statistics.

Ethiopian airlines : 3 crashes since 1996

Emirates airlines : 0 crashes since 1996

Which will you say is safer?

Before you start insulting people weigh the statistics.
