This is pathetic!

Why give your child excess cash

Why should your child who should be in school go to a hotel at all And remain there overnight

The parents are to blame. Sorry.

The boy wouldn't have died had he stayed back in school.

May God help me bring up my children right and in the way of the LORD. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Lol I know you are emotional, it's just the simple truth,
There was a case of a police man that allowed a woman to die in a burning house, he was released unconditionally

Was he standing there and watched her burn, did he rake away any form of identity on the body ?? These are enough to twist this as premeditated ,they can go on to even say they encouraged the boy t drink down enough alcohol like I said a good lawyer will put these boys away I also hope the father uses all resources to ensure these boys pay for it

I quite agree. But at least one class of envy (being from a rich background) would be off the list.

I logged in just to reply to your comment, what they did is despicable and morally wrong but they can never be charged with murder, they didn't push him into the water, they didn't hold him to drown, they only declined to help him, they can be charged with stealing from a dead man. Simple. The law and morality is different. Although they can not be separated, but they never mix

Thanks for this. What of the minor? What punishment may he face?

Actually there isn’t any such law. EVEN if you witnessed MURDER!! You have every right to stay quiet.

Let alone when it was a natural disaster such as drowning.

Not even can you charge a medical doctor for refusing to treat a patient while the patient was in critical condition. Even in spite of their Hippocratic oath, most doctors would insist on payment before treatment.

The only person gullible here is the hotel for not having life savers or divers nearby. But if the hotel can argue that there were safety rules which the boy flouted, then the hotel is covered.

Other than stealing his phone and money, the only other crime committed by the friends was that they did not report to the police what had happened. Which may not even be a crime because the only crime is the concealment of evidence or lying to law enforcement agencies which we are not told that the boys or the hotel did.

what are you saying didn't they come together, didn't they enter the pool together, they saw the the guy drowning and didn't do anything, they were three for Christ sake and they let him died it not a natural disaster it plain murder, even if the victim didn't tell them he doesn't know how to swim they could have shouted for help but no they didn't they also did not help, they might have just drown him because they murder him plain and simple, if by some snowball chance in Hell they are able to get out of this, the victim family can sue them for wrongful death

This is a very very very flawed reasoning, that its because the mothers MAY have been working class that their sons grew up to be wicked and heartless? From the story the 3 evil boys are not well to do so there is a higher possibility that their parents aren't rich & probably their mothers are stay at homes or petty traders, those boys are collectively terrible beings, NO one made them that way instead they allowed themselves to be influenced by material things of the world that they where fine with their friend drowning rather than watching him succeed more. Have you ever wondered why children of so called pastors are mostly nasty?

You do not have to agree with my thought process, but for the sake if this discourse, I will try engage you.

Let me break this down to you, (1) they may not be as well off as the said Emmanuel parents, but we werent told their own parents social class.

(2) who told you no one made them that way? These are kids for crying out loud, not adults. They werent properly trained, full stop! Imagine not one of those kids could think back or make reference to any warnings and advices their parents may have given then, because they lacked it. They werent taught, they werent told... This is a very painful reality.

3) Just like I said at the end of my original comment that I am not oblivous to moms that stay home with kids that are still wayward, i'll explsin. There's still a difference in actuallly being productive and just merely being busy. You'll agree with me that some women stay home (unemployed) but arent physically or emotionally there! Thats a very busy mom and in my theory classified under the same group as the mothers mentioned aboved.

(4) Some children of Pastors are nasty cos their parents spend all their time at church, meetings, weekly this and that, chasing tithes, etc thereby neglecting their kids. Still classified under the mothers I explained above.

My reasoning isnt flawed, it just doesnt resonate with you and understandably because its an unpopular opinion.

This is just sad. As a mother I cried reading this the first time, imagining what his poor parents now have to deal with. The grief, pain, endless tears...smh

On a side note: I couldnt help but notice a flaw in these kids upbringing..and by extention a clear example of the quality of young people we as parents have raised and sre raising...

I shuddered to think how 17/18 year olds would knowingly allow their own classmate drown, ontop of that, steal his phone and money and then walk away like they did nothing...smh!

Who is to blame here? Personally, I put a larger percentage on mothers. So many work and run businesses from early morning 4am (those who leave for work) only to return home so late kids are in bed snoring away...So many mothers, leave their kids as little as 3 months with strangers, chasing all manner of high end jobs with endless meetings and overseas travels, all to the detriment of their kids. Right in their homes, kids getting molested and abused in various ways.

I have always been of the opinion that: if you start raising a family as a woman, start up a business close to home if at all you must work, so you can adequately cater and raise your children, see to their mental & emotional well being.

And in cases you feel your career is more important, please do not birth kids you wouldnt raise as most Nigerian men arent cut out by default to be house husbands or nurturers of kids.

I am also not oblivious to cases where even when mom stays at home kids still go south o, thats a discussion for another time.

Wheew! This wasnt intended to be long. My apologizes if you read till the end.

Rest in peace to Emnanuel Balogun

This teens are something else.

I once heard from.a teacher friend of mine how some teens (14, 15yts) were discussing how tobframe aale teacher because he flogged them for not doing their assignments. According to him, they wanted to blackmail him with rape until by Gods infinite mercy, it backfired and the truth was brought into the open. Imagine oooo 14 and 15 yr old girls.

My life is simple. I don't keep friends; male or female. I respect family. When people do the 'betray word' to me, I don't call it betray. They are not my friends! Only friends betray!
Peer pressure has really killed many young adults. We should be extra careful of the friends we keep: trust no one.

I don't know what the maximum sentence for manslaughter is. And if the father of the deceased is as rich as we are meant to believe, then these boys might well spend the rest of their youth in prison.
The one the envied might be dead but their lives is as good as over too. They will find that out inside the prison.

If it can be proved that they deliberately lured him to the deep end of the pool knowing he was not able to cope, they can be tried for murder.

I never knew I have many people of kindred spirit here . Friend this and Friend that. Be in a serious trouble that require friends to do a substantial amount of sacrifice for you then you will realise that you you are all alone in this world. The man who feels strong and happy in his lone world is the strongest of them all.

If what I read here was their statement and not just some narration of the person who shared the story, then you know there shouldn't be anyway they can escape from being found guilty of manslaughter.
As long as this statement is admissible in court the charge of manslaughter will stick. The question would now be, "how many years will the judge sentence them for"?

Is it not better for them to enjoy their friends wealth than to kill him, he paid for their stay in the hotel plus refreshments but they still had the heart to kill him. What a wicked world. Everyone be careful out their don't leave your drink opened and unattended to go pee, carry your drink with you to the toilet oooo, guys are not smiling.

You might be right.
1. Prove the boys knew their friend couldn't swim.
2. That it was their initiative that they go to the swimming pool.
3. That there was a plot to let him drown (this would be hard, it will take turning one of them to testify against the rest)
4. They could have saved him but rather did nothing. (Proving this alone would get a conviction of manslaughter).
Get this four points with a good prosecution counsel and the boys just got themselves life imprisonment at the very least.
