The reason you chose how you behave although based on choice at some point is as a result of some form of engineering either from friends or videos. You would have been none of this if you had never seen anyone smoking.
Your mind may be stronger right now but when much younger you can be reversed engineered to become what they want. Your decision last last is based on what attract your attention(the most complicated part) , if I can get your attention then I could engineer your behavior. Humans are complex being and could someday break from such modifications.
As for your case I suggest you were not engineered enough, your mind where given some form of freedom to think other stuff when younger.

Did you start smoke the day you were born? It sure didn't start the very day you saw someone smokes. In facts, you may have hated someone that smokes at a point in your life. Then you started it after seeing several people do. That is behavioural engineering at play. You weren't born as a smoker, you learn it after so many exposure to those who are doing it. I am sure if you were never given education to some level that made your question some of the teachings you received while growing up, you will still believe there is God. Everything we do, we learn from others directly or indirectly. Howbeit, we all differ in our level of amenability, some of us become more rigid in our believes than others.
