Its simple, just set your network type to 2g or 3g. 4g zapps data like witch mostly if your phone is a 4g phone. Its not MTN that is stealing your data. The faster your network the more data it takes

It's total bullshit. I use mtn and it doesn't suck data at all. I use what I subscribe for. The thing is most Nigerians are used to very slow networks and this is where glo try to cajole people. Their Network is so slow u can use 2gb in 30 days and still have some mb left. Mtn is freaking fast and some people will stream YouTube at 1080p and later come and complain that mtn suck their data. Meanwhile with glo they can only stream at 144 or 240p. Yes mtn is that fast the first time u launch YouTube it would try to stream at the highest possible quality that the network can stream at. If u notice since Airtel launched their 4g a lot of people have started complaining that it sucks their data. Why? Because Airtel 4g is also incredibly fast , they be enjoying it without monitoring their usage. The only network that doesn't suck data to people is glo and that's because they are slow.

Another major data sucker is Instagram. When u are on a slow network it conserves data as it won't be able to pre load videos. But on a fast network it preloads all videos at the highest possible quality based on network speed. More videos means more data.

I just started experiencing this problem on a 4G phone using the glo network. The thing is so slow and burns like gas. No value for money. With my previous phone, I would use a max of 2gig for 1 month but now it's a very sad story. Anyone with a solution would be appreciated because from what I can see it's same with other networks.

If u want to conserve data swicth to 3g or even 2g only. As for me I enjoy the speed of 4g so I don't have to switch to 3g only. Be mindful of YouTube videos, watch at 240p, it's clear enough and saves a lot of data. A lot of people watch YouTube without changing the quality and when u are on a fast network it might be streaming at 720p or even 1080p. If a 5 mins video streamed at 240p burns 10mb of data, the same video at 1080p will burn around 200mb

U mean YouTube web on mobile phones or laptop? If it's on mobile, while in portrait mode click the 3 dots, then playback settings and u can change it.

Exactly. Below is my usage so far this month and I can account for everything 55.6gb mobile hotspot and that's because I downloaded over 53gb files on ps4.

5.9gb YouTube. No denying, I watch YouTube a lot, sometimes for several hours a day.

1.86gb mutv. I've been watching man utd pre season games on mutv.

Look no further, there are the culprits. You can restrict background data for those apps you don't normally use

I started turning off my data at night before going to bed when I realized at least 50mb disappears every night before morning.
IG also consumes lot of data by loading video at the background.

Oga put on ur phone's data calculator. I use 2 gig in 2 days but I know that I'm d one using it. Mtn is lightening fast so yu would just be enjoying the streaming and downloads forgetting ur data is burning. Like others advised check other apps too that load in the background. Had to turn off data for my photo app cos I discovered in backed up automatically.

So why all these network providers no fit give Unlimited plans say 3K weekly or 10K monthly as in we go buy.. Them give us 4G then forget to give us more data.. me here Airtel 4G I sub 1K for 3GB(Double data) in less than a week I go don sub like 3times

you think the data counting on your device justifies how data is consumed? if a network operator decides that your one gig should vanish within a second trust me your device would still record that you consumed the one gig by just login your Facebook. so Mtn should stop the crap they are doing,this lady isn't the first to experience this,1gig is enough to stream HD movies on YouTube for four hours on Etisalat,if you know what that means.
