He said that, "For us in Ondo State, until just recently when we recorded the issue of the gruesome murder of Mrs Olakunrin, Ondo state could be described as relatively peaceful, when we compare the statistics of crime and criminality, with other states. And this has been because of the synergy and the robust relationship the command is having with stakeholders."

Mr Joseph explained that the state government is actively working with the police department in curbing these worrisome trends in the state. He revealed that upon the assumption of office of the new commissioner of police, he interacted with all the stakeholders, beginning from the traditional rulers, the Driver’s union, the motorcyclists, the student’s union bodies and all other stakeholders with the view of putting an abrupt end to this menace.

He further disclosed that this synergy is already yeilding positive response as the police department are already arresting the perpetrators of this disastrous acts.

According to him, " Not quite long ago we recorded a massive arrest of kidnappers, who usually operated from Ibillo in Edo state. About 8 of them confessed, we also arrested people whose stock in trade was to waylay bank customers, as soon as you get your money from the bank, they trail you to your destination. We were able to smash that syndicate."

He also added, "The interesting thing about these criminals is that they are not from this state. Some of these people I just mentioned are from Bayelsa state, some from the east, but luckily for us we were able to smash them. The recent attack, very reprehensive, very unfortunate, we are doing our work to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice."

However Mr. Femi Joseph urged the good people of Ondo State to remain calm and continue to trust and support the police in its bid to executing it's duties. He said that people in recent times have been commending the police department for its prompt response to their calls, he referred to the communal clash on Araromi Obu which the timely intervention of the police department successful restored peace and order to the community after series of negotiations and dialogue between the warring communities.

He added that, " Our officers are invading those forests where we are getting information are haven for criminals, we are invading them, anybody there who we suspect, we have to subject such person to what I describe as Third degree interrogation, if he or she is not able to provide ample or convincing explanation, why he or she is there, then he or she will still need a lot to answer."

Furthermore Mr Femi Joseph revealed that the police department has increased its manpower in its bid to ensure that the Benin Ore Expressway is safe for road users.
