Police Criminality And Brutality In Enugu State. by Ugwuoke347(m): 8:34pm On Aug 03, 2019
Where does one really turn to for a reprieve? I am still wondering what exactly the job of police is supposed to be. I am still wondering why those in government have allowed policemen to take delight in maltreating and oppressing law abiding citizens every now and again, the same people they swore to protect! I am still wondering why the government has allowed this ugly situation to persist and to fester.

Just look at Orba in Udenu Local Government Area where the current Governor hails from. Yes, the Governor brought Udenu Area Command to Orba his hometown in his first term in office, but of what use is that when that Area Command in Orba has become a den of THIEVES and VICIOUS ARMED ROBBERS in police uniform? Of what practical use is that police unit to Orba and Udenu environs when policemen from there are only preoccupied and seriously engaged with the evil business of blocking Orba-Nsukka Road every now and again and extorting money from road users? Are we cursed as a people in this part of the world? What is wrong with us? Are we really humans or "black monkeys" slowly evolving into the human form? How have we come to accept these things with mere shrug of the shoulders? How did we come to convince our conscience to make room to accommodate a situation where policemen charged by law with the sacred duty of protecting life and property; I mean, law enforcement agents hired, maintained and armed with taxpayers' money pluck up enough evil courage and get bold enough to point their guns at members of the public, and rob them at gunpoint?
It is regrettably insane to note that this evil is happening right under our nose, and those who could call these evil men in police uniform to order have turned a blind eye. They have chosen to see no evil and hear no evil!

The silence of Enugu State Government on the incessant harassment, intimidation and maltreatment of people in different parts of the State by men in police uniform smacks of cowardice and dereliction of duty! The government can issue a press release or send memos to the Police Commissioner in Enugu State, or even forward a memo to the Inspector General of Police detailing the different shades of police criminality in the State and telling him to call his men to order! The Governor himself can even decide to pay a visit to the Police Inspector General in Abuja for a private chat. Afterall , he swore to protect life and property of Enugu people!

Here in the Governor's hometown, Orba, it is one day one trouble! It is either filthy masquerades are going about terrorizing and maiming people or robbers are going about wrecking havoc in the villages, or then policemen are ubiquitously available robbing, intimidating, injuring and harassing our people!

Someone needs to call policemen from the police units and formations in Nsukka axis to order, especially policemen from:
* Udenu Area Command Orba.
*Udenu Divisional Police Station Obollo-Afor.
* Area Command Nsukka.

Men, and officers from these police formations are oppressing our people. And if nothing is done to check their excesses, one day, just one day, a stern mob action will be unavoidable! Someone tell these evil men in police uniform that one day, their cups shall overflow and spill over! Someone tell them that even if the authorities fail to curtail and check their roguery and thievery along Orba Road and elsewhere in Nsukka Zone, the Justice of God Almighty shall surely weigh things against them. And that one day the people's rage shall be sufficiently stoked so much so as to rise in action and take back what belongs to them!

But then, why would any sane government wait until there is total breakdown of public order before it sits up and lives up to its responsibilities. For a fact, police has no right either in law or common sense to abuse and demean road users by not only making them look like debtors but also maltreating and brutalizing them when they resist police robbery.

Just yesterday being 2nd of August 2019, men of the Nigeria Police from Nsukka Town set up "shop" as usual along Orba Road a little away from Nru Junction, and started plying their evil transaction of robbery-at-police-gunpoint there. Well, they ran out of luck and met an unyielding brick wall when they flagged down a bus branded Enugu South Local Government Mass Transit conveying market women from Orba to Nsukka Town. They pointed their riffles at the driver and demanded that he hand a ransom of five hundred naira to them or they "kidnap" his bus and the occupants to the station. The driver, a true Biafran got down and querried them sternly and vehemently on why he should do such a thing, which angered them immediately. While the driver was protesting and resisting the unfolding intimidation, the conductor moved two poles away from the scene to urinate. On sighting the conductor urinating at a safe distance from them, these evil policemen felt insulted and surged towards the conductor and there and then descended on him beating, hitting, striking with everything they could lay their hands on, and in the process broke his head with the butt of their riffle.

That was when all hell was let loose as blood began to flow.
The sight of blood and the outcry of the driver and his injured conductor attracted a sizeable crowd of people who there and then started spoiling for mob action against the policemen.

On seeing the looming danger, the policemen started begging and apologizing. The people refused. And insisted that the heads of the policemen must be broken one by one to even things up. The policemen intensified their begging on seeing clearly that the people were men who are mean and determined. They offered to pay for the treatment of the injured conductor, and to buy him any other thing that can help him to heal fast. The mob eventually relaxed their insistence after boys from that area intervened to beg on behalf of the policemen. They were made to pay for the treatment, and to buy the conductor all such other things an accident victim needs to heal fast, and also to give him some pocket money!

One day, it shall be good night to police brutality in our land.
One day, an iron curtain shall be permanently drawn against police criminality, and all other atrocities by men in uniform in our land.
Just one day, the hunter shall be hunted.
Let these evil men continue to try the patience and longsuffering forbearance of the public.
One day their game and that of their evil enablers (the political office holders, and all relevant institutions who fail to call them to order) shall be up and over.
Just one day, the endurance of our people shall be stretched to breaking point, and the devil shall then bless these rogues hiding in police uniform.
One day, shall be Last Day for the wicked!
That day is fast approaching.
It is here already.
If government does nothing, then
let them get set for the explosion of rage which is to come!

I actually had to go to a safe distance to take pictures.
And that is why I could not capture the crowd surrounding the policemen and their victim, the injured conductor.
