Until Nigeria leaders stop looting the treasury and other corrupt inclinations, the Nigerian youths will not stop fraud and criminal activities because they learnt the "trade" from the elders(leaders).
That is the realist view.

The op is stupid to tow the line of buhari calling Nigerian youths lazy including those who enjoyed the country in the 50's 60's and 70's calling graduates half baked

Well, to me these elites feel threatened and as such tends to keep the average Nigerian at bay in the scheme of things. Come to think of it, there are still these set of Nigerians in the civil service in their 70's yet falsify age

Op you're not exposed and ultimately you're daft and I wonder how old u are and d kind of exposure

Nigerian graduates have been pushed out of the scheme of things. Go to private firm recruitment and see how young folks hustle for 30, 40 and 50k jobs (big gals who don't wanna be prostituting, married folks alike) just to keep body and soul together and u call them lazy. Idiot!

Buhari in his 80's is ruling u and that doesn't bother u at all. A man of that age is senile and u join the elite band wagon to dish out rubbish

There's a big problem in Nigeria that a lot of idiots like the op is not seeing. Go to cooperate firms, those middle income earners who get as much as 150-250k per month are getting family visas and leaving the country for good. I have witnessed almost 6 cases in the past 2 yrs where I work and u think they don't know what they are doing and see what is coming?!

Op keep hitting ur keyboard typing poo and just know you're in same mess as every other Nigerian as ur leaders have created a heaven for themselves including children unborn.

Lol in all this you didn't add bad governance and a failed system.. you are biased

Leave him to his folly!

In my 3 decades on earth I've never witnessed or seen suicide cases from Ondo to ekiti to Delta to Benin, port Harcourt, kogi and lagos and all of a sudden 2015 the numbers keep increasing. It should amaze us. I only watch suicide scenes in American movies and boom it's in our doorstep. Fact is, there is a Summersault in our social-economic system. Families and immediate relations are no more glued like yrs back and these are resultant effects of bad governance. lol, not a bad write up.. however reality varies with life circumstances,

The O.P's reality is different from that of the guy in Maduguri IDP camp whose farmland and animals are facing desertification, drought and insurgency

Or the Hard working Guy in Nnewi who lost all his capital he got from serving his master for over a decade, due to bad goverment policy like sudden forex hike, overnight ban of importation, increase in cost of energy(petrol, diesel and NEPA), insecuirity like robery and kidnaping or fruadsters buying goods with fake bank alert

What of the Graduate in Oshogbo who took a 28% interest loan to buy a bike or trycycle with a payback clause of 18months daily payment without default, but ended up getting robbed or having accident after just 6 months.. without income and loan wolves hovering

Now to quickly correct you about what you wrote up there thinking Developed countries are easy... lol shocked untill you travel and leave in another mans land, a land where without papers you are condemned to either beg to survive or do the most degrading form of jobs just to have shelter in the coldest of winters, then you wouldnt understand why many Nigerians take to crime when in the "abroad"

This is why Civilised countries dont see prisons as punishment center but a correctional facility where they hope to train and rehabilitate criminals and first time offenders back to the society to be useful, rather than condemn them as greedy, lazy and demonic youth

..

You just spoke trash. There’s no excuse for crime. Are Nigerians the only foreign ones abroad without papers? There are Indians, Ghanaians, Kenyans, Senegalese, etc living abroad also and though some are into crime, Nigerians are the most notorious when you talk about crime. Even as a Nigerian, I also avoid the Nigerians in Europe cause I’m scared of them. They’re destroying the image of the black race, cause people first see the black guy as a Nigerian until they see their passport and differentiate between Nigerians and the rest.

Bro, even those that got trade skills presently aren't getting it easy. Go round ur vicinity and do a survey on women who own shops and you'll find out a lot of them have taken to borrowing cash from microfinance bank in the past 2 or 3 yrs for the first time ultimately due to the fact that a lot of their husbands who used to be giving extra cash to the Biz are outta work and so dependent on them thus making it difficult to manage Biz.

My firm was recruiting marketers early this yr and I saw a handicap guy come in for the job. Out of curiosity I asked the recruitment manager his qualification and I was shock he got masters. I felt sad cos I know down within me he'll not be given the job even if he passed cos of his disability status

Wow!! So inspire of what our past and present leaders are doing to us one useless fool here still have the guts and efontary to tag Nigeria youth's as the problem? Now I see that tyranny is the best way to keep people scared and obedient. Buhari has so much tormented the likes of Dino and saraki to a point everyone else now see him as their Lord and savior. Everyone is scared of APC and start blaming their brother

They are lazy. This is the country where a hard working persoń is called mumu. Even pastors presch it. Ive heard pastors from pulpits mock hard working people.

The reason why Nigerian youths excel abroadis because they are in a society thay does not condone laziness. You have no choice but to work hard. Oyinbo land, if you no get money nothing like 'bros abeg make I get 5k' If you dont have money go and work. Wash dishes, wait tables, do anything unless you want to become a beggar.

I love the part that says people like Invictus Obi were opportuned to travel abroad and still chose crime. Even though our Country is not as good as we want and the Govt is not helping matters, it however obvious that greed, convetuousness, and desperation of youths is the main reason why most of them prefer criminality and shady business to legitimate hustle.

If Obi could travel abroad where there is a better life and still chose crime, if some people could go to far away Asia and still chose crime it is obvious that greed and desperation is the root cause of criminality in most youths

Dont mind them. They are already talking of leadership. Write ups like these are supposed to get normal people reflecting on the kind of society that they have built. There lies the root of most problems. But Niggerians are not normal they are allergic to learning

Nigeria leaders are nothing but devil. Especially the ones that benefited from this country good days. They climbed up and destroyed the ladders for other generation.
You want to go school, no government loan. When you're sick, no support from the government. As a citizen of this country i have never get any grant from the government.

StaffofOrayan:
This is a stupid write up
And can only be written by an insecure individual
Do you know that unemployed people, single mothers, the disabled are entitled to income from the govt of the West? How many Nigerian youths have access to that?
The older generation destroyed this generation but have made you believe the Youths born in the 80's and 90's are the problem and the cause of Nigerias dented image, was there Yahoo in the era of Obj and and of course we buy it like the dummies we are.
Now go to the streets and see tens of millions of youths even children of Nigeria toiling away in the sun for next to nothing,
Anytime govt offers employment for 100 positions, 10,000 apply and you have the guts to blame the youths?
Mehn don't let me vex this morning!

Yes me amanee; i agree with some of your points and also object to some.

When you say Nigerian Youths are lazy in the sense that we are not been creative in our reasoning, then i will agree with you.

I think on this article, the government of Nigeria takes a major portion of the blaim. Not until they begin to act right by providing basic infrastructures for its citizens; Development in Nigeria will remain retarded.

Lastly for we the youth's we need to step up actions and engage the government in delivery of its mandate to its Citizens.

Thank you once again for this piece; mr amanee!!!

I may not entirely agree with you, the problem of our today youths started when parents told them to go to school get good grades and a job was waiting for them. This advice was given in ignorance, most of our parents as a result of them pioneering the university education got jobs after obtaining a university degree, but considering population growth that system is not sustainable and won't work now because few business have been built and sustained over the years.

Now imagine if you were told that 2+2 =22 for over 20years, changing the answer to 4 will take some time to get used to. The fact is that most parents didn't discern the future of their children, the economy we presently run is a skill economy meaning that a man with a skill and no formal education is preferable to one with the opposite. I'm sure that this economy is going to change again in the next 50years.

Now a young person sold a lie of education for job sees another fellow with no education no skill no business driving a luxury car, living large, and command so much power, it's only natural to want to be like such a person after all we were taught to aspire to be like the best in the society.

Least we forget the online scam industry was created by the Nigerian government during the sagari government, students were sent abroad on scholarship then the country went through a recession and the government stoped every form of support to these students abroad, may of them were left homeless and hungry and their survival instinct kicked in.

To solve this problem we need to understand that it will take time to solve the problem, secondly we need to stop the name calling and blame game, we need to restore equity and fairness in our society, we need venture capital to ensure businesses grow, we need to orientate our youths on the possibilities in our present system and allow them follow their dreams, we need to make sure that our youths think for themselves.
