Can Nigeria Prison Service Official Arrest Someone Without Valid Court Order? by Seylad2009(m): 2:13pm On Aug 29, 2019
A Nigeria Correctional Service (Nigeria Prison Service) Takum Mini Prison, Taraba state official arrested a young lady yesterday morning and lock her in prison without court order or police involvement more than 24hrs now because the lady is owing someone 20k.
They says, they have an arrest warrant. To bail the lady, 15k is demanded by this prison official.

My question is, is it constitution right for Nigeria Prison Official to arrest and lock someone in prison without a court sitting and order by a judge?

Update: She has been released after 10k was paid for bail.

It's against the law anywhere in the world.... but as we know Nigeria is a lawless jungle, no wonder!

Honestly, I am surprise because she wasn't invited to appear in court nor was there a court sitting. They said, they have a bench warrant of arrest.
The most surprising thing is that, because of 20k, they lock her up inside prison cell for more than 24 hours now and demanding 15k to bail her. Police, that's even there oga for bail money, won't even lock you up because of 20k nor demand 15k to bail you when you're owing someone 20k.

The Nigerian prisons and officials are custodians of convicted or detained persons.
They have no say, in arrest, investigation, persecution or even judgement of persons.

If only she could afford a lawyer.

If she could afford 15k to bail herself, she would have paid that to the person she was owing money earlier na
