South-East region ought to have taken the lead in the provision of the regional security network.

The south south should do theirs separately .... But let there be a cohesion between the security outfits because of the proximity .. To prevent clashing

The south east ought to be leading this not the west
The south south should do theirs separately but it can still be a joint security architecture.
It is common sense.

Why should the south east lead it?
Do they have two heads or are they the ones suffering insecurity the most?

It's a way of reducing population of able men and youths in the state.

This your assumption is ridiculous. LOL

Must you bring tribalism into this?
Will it kill you to just commend what the governor is doing?

Like play, state police will soon materialize.
I fear for Nigeria.
The truth is that Nigeria is not ripe for state police.
The same shenanigan and charade that is happening with all states LG elections were the governor's party and handpicked candidates win all posts, including councillorship in an opponents own family compound, will occur here.
Governors and those close to him will determine who can be arrested, prosecuted, who to release and even who gets to be murdered or not in the name of carrying out an arrest

OK noted.

So if you're the governor of Osun state, what will be your response to the security challenges in your state?

Good move . Thumbs up. Other regions and states should watch and learn. And follow suit. If the FG or police can't defend you its up to you to defend yourselves. Don't die helplessly like chickens.

Why?
So they can accuse them of anti Nigerian or anti buhari sentiments.?

It is better this way. And most of the governors are from the ruling party.

The east can now take it a step higher. If they don't, then they are fools.

Honestly the solution I think that should be adopted is holistic reform and increase of police personnel.
Remember most states and even communities have vigilantes. They can be further incorporated to help the police.
Let me use LASTMA as a case study.Have you ever heard or seen a LASTMA arrest an erring government official at the state or council arreas?Even ordinary councillors can violate a traffic law and go away with it.Ditto, virtually all manner of traditional rulers.
So how can a similar type of quasi security outfit apprehend a state government, council or traditional ruler if he/she is found implicated in kidnappings,or the security challenges the region is facing.
All it takes is for someone close to someone close to the governor to make a call;he gives a command, and the case is either quashed or downplayed.
Reform the police holistically, remove any form of immunity government officials constitutionally have;or just a few years down the line, people like you will still come here complaining that the new Western security outfit are either biased, not doing their job properly or more likely to be the case, accused of shielding some individuals.
Nigeria is not ripe for any form of regional police under the purview of ALL the governors we presently have.

There has to be a.precedence first so that they won't accuse us of trying to divide the country.

Hopefully, innoson would get the vehicle contract for the eastern region.
And I hoping it would be a joint security architecture with the South South given the very close geographic proximity.

You really trust the SE governors to do something like this, I doubt it. I remember their proposal to construct something like ring road around the 5 states of the region, that one is dead and buried

PureFace1:
The Osun State Government has said it is making available 20 Armoured Personnel Carriers to the Western Nigerian Security Network, as part of its contribution to fighting insecurity in the region.

The network is a security architecture designed by the south-west governors as a response to the spate of kidnappings, killings and other violent crimes within the region.

It was gathered that the governors of the states in the region are at the stage of launching the outfit after approval was given from the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola, while addressing citizens of the state as part of the state’s 28th anniversary, said the state government was mindful of the need to maintain the peace in the state and in the south-west region.

The governor noted that Osun has been known for peace since its creation in 1991 and to further sustain that status, was partnering with other south-west states to strengthen security in the region.

Mr Oyetola said the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) would commence operation to fortify the area.

“We are contributing 20 Armoured Personnel Carriers and other ideas and logistics to further guarantee the security of lives and property of the citizens in our state and region,” the governor said.

The governor noted that even though the government had every reason to roll out the drums in celebration of its 28th anniversary, it had decided to make it a low key, owing to the prevailing economic situation in the country.

He paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers of the state, including his predecessors in office, for laying a “solid foundation,” upon which successive administrations have continued to build on.

“We promised to pay full salary to all our workers, we have not defaulted. We promised to pay our pensioners; we have also not defaulted,” he said.

“We promised to rebuild, remodel and, in some cases, carry out total rehabilitation of existing school buildings in series 4 classrooms, 5 classrooms, 6 classrooms, 8 classrooms, 10, 15 and 20 classrooms at a maximum of 50 pupils/students per class, to cater for communities at 200, 250, 300, 400, 500, 750 pupils per school.

“We have commissioned completed projects in that regard in Telemu and Morinu, in Olaoluwa and Iwo local government areas respectively. Our work as a government so far points to one fact: better days ahead.”

The governor also used the opportunity to detail the several achievements of his government on assumption of office and urge the citizens to join hands in building the state.

“The totality of our efforts in the last nine months is built on our manifesto which was carefully crafted to take our State to the Next Level,” he added.

“It shall continue to define our relationship with you. I congratulate you all, distinguished compatriots, on this eventful 28 years’ journey to Statehood. May God continue to bless the state of Osun.”

Laughs in Swahilli. Is it not the same Hausa Fulanis dominated inefective security operatives that will use these APCs? How have they used the ones provided by the central government to combat crines successfully? The best they can do is to adopt a catchy codename and continue harassing innocent Nigerians while collecting their tolls at different new checkpoints.

Any security arrangements that comes before the constitutional decentralization of the police system in Nigeria is still leaving it at the whims and caprices of the NSA that approved it and therefore will fail.
