Hian, so we don't even produce milk in Nigeria.

Milk is produced in Nigeria but in low quantities due to several factors not limited to high cost of entry into the sector (a Friesian cow costs at least half a million naira excluding importation), lack of constant electricity (which affects storing the milk properly), herdsmen crises, poor infrastructure(bad roads and plethora of ejunge folks along the roads), poor breeds of dairy cows etc.

Sleevia:
Only two of the 4 has website.

FrieslandCampina WAMCO and Chi Limited (this one was not in doubt)

The others are they ghost?

I think that of Irish Dairy is actually Ornua Cooperative.

Yes no. Now tell me Mr Propaganda, is it the FG government that told all SS and SE states to violently reject grazing reserves? The SS and SE used propaganda to paint grazing reserves as evil, so don't complain when the North starts profiting from the reserves.

If this government is sincere, they would also ban importation of cows.

We know that more than 50% of the beef consumed in Nigeria is imported from Cameroon, Chad, Niger etc.

TBH, doing that would be a terrible policy, just as the current moves to ban an essential staple such as milk, is a terrible policy too.

i know of WAMCO at iseyin oyo state...

What breaks my heart most is that all CBN's effort to give Nigerians upper hand and make us control our economy by discouraging forex for export and encouraging loans and forex to manufacturers, isnt being utilize , it is still Chinese, Europeans, Indians and lebanese that would setup this local factory and still benefit from all this, while our Politicians take money abroad, while our youths are worked like donkeys and paid peanut by this indians and the rest of the youths simply do nothing but wail online

CBN already made it known that $1.5bn dollars is spent annually that is N540,750,000,000 billion up for grab annually., Smart Graduates would already group them self into clusters of small professional and understudy the local fulani method of rearing cattles and modernise it to give more yeild, and make a perfect bankable Business Plan and aggressively begin looking for AFDB loan, Bank Of Agriculture Loan, CBN Anchor borrowers Loan , that of Bank of Industries or Partnership and Investors even if its to partner Yahooboys who are trying to go legit

Buhari Agricultural Policies Yielding Positive Results

Four Nigerian firms begin local production of milk

In line with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy to discourage the importation of milk, four dairy products manufacturers have commenced the process for the local production of milk, an official has said.

The CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, who announced in Abuja on Thursday, gave the names of the companies.

They are FrieslandCampina WAMCO, Neon Agro, Chi Limited and Irish Dairy. He said they have already expressed interest to invest in Bobi Grazing Reserve in Niger State.

Bobi Grazing Reserve located in Mariga Local Government Area is part of 26 Grazing Reserves gazette under a livestock development initiative by the Niger State government in partnership with the CBN.

The reserve has a land area of 31,000 hectares, with about 700 families and 300,000 heads of cattle resident there for the pilot project.

Specifics

So far, the CBN governor said FrieslandCampina WAMCO and Neon Agro have agreed to acquire 10,000 hectares of land each, while Chi Limited and Irish Dairy are to develop 4,000 hectares each for their local milk production project.

The remaining 3,000 hectares will be retained by the state government for its development programmes.

Already, as at last Tuesday, September 18, Mr Emefiele said FrieslandCampina WAMCO had cleared a total land area of 695 hectares, with 190 hectares already cultivated with pastures for the livestock.

Similarly, he said Chi Limited has also signed contracts for the clearing and planting of pasture on its allocated 4,000 hectares of land.

He said Niger State government has cleared and fenced 63 hectares of land in two sites.

He said the site has a police post, administrative area and veterinary clinic, with a primary school refurbished, while a clinic is under construction. Also, planting of pasture is currently in progress.

Kaduna

Besides, in Kaduna State, the CBN governor said Arla Group has existing projects in Damau, Amana, NAPRI Shika and Kagarko.

About N12 billion has also been reportedly invested in the development of 6,000 hectares of land in Damau Grazing Reserve under the Bank’s livestock development initiative.

n addition, he said Arla is currently refurbishing a milk processing plant and will soon commence milk off-take from 600 farmers in Kagark.

Again, he said the Promasidor Group has commenced work on the 500 hectares land area granted consent to develop Ikun Dairy Farm Project in Ekiti State.

Apart from the deployment of 20 tractors for land preparations at the site, the company has also commenced the planting of pasture for the livestock.

Plateau, Abuja

For integrated Dairies Limited, an indigenous dairy company based in Jos, Plateau State, the company has engaged the Plateau State government and key interest groups on the development of Wase Grazing Reserve.

Nestle Plc has indicated interest in developing its dairy project in Abaji, in the Federal Capital Territory.

The CBN said it has contacted the relevant government departments to fast-track land acquisition and issuance of title documents.

“For these investments to bear fruits, the support of the state governments is needed through land, and other infrastructural amenities,” the CBN governor said.

End of an era?

Mr Emefiele said the CBN was determined to end the era when the country spent about $1.5 billion annually on the importation of dairy products like milk, yogurt, cheese and other milk derivatives.

He said a situation where over 95 per cent of milk products consumed in the country was imported was not healthy for the country’s economy, considering that the country’s dairy industry had huge potentials to create millions of jobs and foreign exchange savings.

The sector, he said, has an undeveloped meat processing infrastructure, declining tannery operations, inadequate large-scale private investments in cold storage and transportation, and insecurity arising mostly from pastoralists/farmers clashes, rustling, and other socio-economic challenges.

With over 85 per cent of the country’s cattle, estimated at over 20 million, owned and managed by smallholders, he said the CBN has resolved to support subsistent and nomadic herdsmen who want to be integrated in the scheme.

I know this is off topic but left to me they should just shut down all these cattle rearing business. Its ultimately bad for the planet(global warming)and bad for our health.

Adult humans don't need the milk of another animal to survive.
The milk of any animal is designed to enable the young of that particular animal(and that animal alone)to grow in the first few months of its life.Once they are weaned they never go back to their mother's milk.
So how did we all buy into this great deception that milk is great for our health?Billions of us conditioned to believe and live a lie.
Ever wondered why cancer rates have exploded in the last 100 years or so?With the rise of this unsustainable modern life/modern diet/?
I stopped drinking cow milk years ago.
That was my first bus stop in my journey to a vegan lifestyle.
Milk, then meat, then egg(that one will be hard though).
You can replace milk with plant milk.I replaced it with water.
I can go on and on but pls feel free to research on milk. Its our lives we are talking about.

So how do you get to have a balanced diet with your vegan lifestyle?

I don't agree with your view on milk but that's an individual choice. It also is far-fetched to link increase of cancer with milk consumption.

The truth is...what people are drinking is not even milk again.Do you know the hormones and antibiotics plus the conditions these animals are subjected to?
As for the balanced diet, you can get all the protein and calcium you need from fruits and vegetables. These are common, fresh, organic and natural in Nigeria.Thats one of the few areas we are lucky.
To me,being vegan is a journey because I still eat goat meat (never beef) twice a week.Either that or chicken. What I have done is greatly reduce intake of meat.
You can follow me on Instagram green_is_the_colour_of_life because you seem interested in veganism.
Veganism is more than just diet. Its living a life aligned to the natural and eco friendly order of things. You become aware of how your actions and in actions affect the natural environment and do your best to reduce the impact. The future generation will thank you for it.

I am just doing the little I can to create awareness.

I totally agree with you on being aware of the impact of our actions on the environment, however I wouldn't extend that to my food choices as I personally believe in balance and don't consider veganism (food/diet) as being balanced. Nonetheless I still respect your choice, was just curious on how you achieve a balanced diet which you've explained, thanks. Will have a look at the Instagram account.

I hope we are not expecting to power this sector with generators. Mining, Automobile, Dairy/Agriculture all require adequate power supply to attract the needed capital funding both local and abroad. If we dont get his basics right, we will not be able to compete favourably. It is not magic, just common sense from the 19th century.

Me i am tired of screaming.
