My advice to the EU is not to stop migrants from coming into their country, rather to harness their energy and use them for cheaper labour as most of the migrants crossing the Mediterranean come from very harsh backgrounds and wouldn't mind working hard for something tangible at least...

Let them look at those jobs like agriculture, sanitation etc and integrate these migrants and see if their economy won't receive a boost.

Italy has very high unemployment rate caused by a rigid labour market.

What is a rigid labour market? Imagine if Nigeria for instance enforced the N30,000 minimum wage, what do you think will happen? Millions will lose their jobs

Imagine if you employed a driver and he comes to work everyday late by 11am. You want to sack him but he reports you to the unions and they say you have no right to sack him. That if you're determined to sack him, pay him 6 months salary in advance as the price to do so. Out of frustration you do.

You employ another driver and he too misbehaves. He talks to your wife and children anyhow and reports to his locations late. You try firing him and the unions frustrate it saying they will only consider it if you pay him off too. You fork out another 6 months advance.

Now, will you employ another driver or simply kukuma drive yourself?

That's is what happens when you have a rigid labour market. It is expensive to hire and fire workers. This discourages employers from hiring so unemployment stays high. The UK has a flexible labour market and that has made it a job creation machine and that's why migrants flock there. They are certain they'll get a job.

If the locals don't have jobs, na foreigner go get job? If there was a tight labour market and employers benefited greatly from these migrants, the attitude towards them will mellow down.

Puzzled with the spate of advancement these nations have reached.

Imagine arresting one for sweeping the environment tells you of a mechanized sweeping employed on the streets of Italy.

I pray we get there before God calls me...

What supernatural power helped you arrive at the conclusion he's an illegal immigrant?

I am aware of the unemployment crisis in Italy, which was why I addressed the comment to the EU cos Italy isn't the only country fighting illegal migration, Spain is also a typical example. Either ways, thanks for your analysis on rigid labour market... wink

Why would a Nigerian decided to integrate by sweeping the public places to seek payment
This public help is unsolicited and unnecessary.
It demean and belittle a citizen from the country flowing with Milk and Honey !

No racist tendency.

Streets are not swept manually in that part of Italy.

JasonScoolari:
Authorities said the fine had been given by officers who were new and inexperienced.

OR the fine had been given by officers who are full blown RACIST...

A very special migrant decide to keep your city clean and the best way you could reward him is by giving him a €350 fine?

If this is not a Racist tendency, I don't know what other name to call it then.

Demean. Lol

Most of the migrants who do this type of thing in Italy are from the oil producing Niger delta of Nigeria.

Some of their people at home still talk "We no be part of Biafra."

You laugh them to their mental slavery and stupor.

Italy seems to be very intolerant of immigrants, especially non White. Spain, despite higher levels of unemployment than Italy (though unofficial statistics may show much better numbers as many work informally), they are more tolerant of migrants. Don't know why.

My dad recounted an experience when he travelled to Italy with my 2 senior siblings in the early 1980's for holiday. After they departed a certain house, an elderly lady came out with a broom and swept their dirt away. Cranky old woman!

Eyaa... I can't imagine how bad your dad felt. But it's all part of life. Racism is real, which is more reason why black people should be careful in foreign countries cos there's no where else where you'd be accepted and tolerated like your country.
