Airtel is the 5th largest Mobile Network in the World, and the 3rd Largest in Asia behind China Mobile and Unicom and they offer the best 3g and broadband services within Asia. Zain is relatively small and they cant muscle the market like their 2 giant rivals Glo, and MTN. With Airtel picking up their operations and ownerships, I think the broadband service in Nigeria will get more competitive. At least, Starcomms which is a complete fraud and joke and be kicked into oblivion.

Which kin best network?? while I concede that calls to other networks gives them a slight edge over mtn(voice clarity is zero, though), their internet service has to be the wackiest around!! angry

I was told by a reliable Indian that Bharti Airtel charges and equivalent of N3K in India for unlimited Internet connectivity. Hope they replicate it in Nigeria, or may be they also want to come and reap as others.

Most of the multinational gsm companies usually have lower rates in the other countries they operate, compared to Nigeria. The increase, they claim, is due to the dearth of infrastructural facilities--in particular electricity--in Nigeria, thereby leading to a marked increase in their operating cost which they then transfer to consumers.

MTN, for instance, at one time claimed they spend about $5.5millon (abt N600mill) monthly on generators, far higher than in any other country they operate.

This is a welcomed development, people should try to understand that for a business to succeed it must expand and take full advantage of the market, a business man who says NO to a name change and expansion will die in his PRIDE.

I've known airtel for a while, gonna keep a close eye and see the services they dish out, after putting the increased operational cost into consideration.

Re: Zain Nigeria Finally Dissolves Into Bharti Airtel For $9 Billion by Nobody: 4:27pm On Nov 20, 2010
MTN are thieves!! they have been connected on a fiber optic cable for sometime now, namely main one, and yet they still charge highly for their internet services, South african companies always exploit Nigerians all in the name of making a profit, I know with glo one having been connected mtn are now bringing out so many so called internet packages all to divert our attention from the fact that they habve been screwing Nigerians over, these south africans are pigs!!! Glo is going to virtually put MTN out of business u wait and see, Glo will crash internet service prices, because that is all that MTN have going for them now, And i like the entrance of AIRtel into the gsm market in our country it breathes for healthy competition
