An Upper Sharia Court in Kaduna on Tuesday sentenced two artisans, Saminu Ahmed, 25 and Mohammed Isah, 23, to 10 strokes of the cane each for stealing two Television sets and two laptops.

The Judge, Mustapha Umar, sentenced them after they pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy, housebreaking and theft and begged for leniency.

Umar also gave the convicts an option to a fine of N5, 000 each.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Shehu Abubakar told the court that on Nov. 2, the complainant, Alhaji Musa Mai-Shanu, who lives in Malali, Kaduna reported the matter at the Gabasawa Police Station.

The prosecutor said the convicts broke into the complainant’s house and stole two tv sets and two laptops.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 59, 289 and 270 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Laws, 2017.

I don't want to kill those who rob me. I have never killed anyone who has robbed me in the past! Its earthly goods after all and not like they killed anyone or took the entire foot.

Is a shoe for a shoe not huge enough for your victimness that a life is the only recompense? Why not just steal some of the criminals time, or steal their standing in the community by humiliating them like they did here?

bro, i fully understand what you are saying but sadly, its starts small small and these same people you would "allow" to rob a bag of chips and go scott-free (aka with a pat on the back) will ultimately turn around and later try to steal your wallet OR carjack you OR do a home invasion. this is the root of the problem and if you dont cut the tree completely aka get rid of these demons, ultimately somebody will be in a life and death situation with these exact same people.

One day, a young man, caught by his uncle stealing kolanut in a farm, ran away from town. 20 years later, having landed with an oil dealer who showed him the ropes he returned to the village and built a petrol station and on opening day said, "I built this petrol station for my uncle who threatened to report me to my father when I stole kolanut in his farm. probably many do repent and sin no more, but we all know that the taste of easy money makes these lazy people sin again and again... until they start blaming the devil when they are caught. i dont buy that.
