IT Gurus, please Step In And Advice Me. by ThatIgboBoy: 3:12pm On Nov 26, 2019
I need suggestions from you guys. This country is no longer funny and man really needs to survive. I need an extra source of income and I believe I will find it in IT.
I studied microbiology in the university. While awaiting Nysc, i attended NIIT where I learnt oracle database administration. I tried all I could to get a job in the IT sector but I didn't work out. I am right now working with my B.sc degree in a pharmaceutical company. Yea the salary is above 100k but it's not enough. I am still single oo. Imagine I add a wife. My mind keeps telling me to go back to IT. That's where I think I will flourish more because I am one who thinks outside the box and I love solving problems. I didn't get a job as an oracle DBA because job opportunities for DBA's were scarce and not that popular. So guys I need an IT course I can do and easily use it as a side gig. If it pays more,I will resign and focus fully on it. Something I can combine with my present job.
Mod lalasticlala and other supermods, you all can help a brother here.

WoW, you went to NIIT? really? NIIT? and you are here asking for which IT Course to do?

abeg abeg, I do not know if you ever even went to NIIT. A person who went to NIIT can not be asking such clueless questions o.

WHY NOT GO TO NIIT AGAIN AND ASK THESE QUESTIONS and choose a course for yourself.

if you LOVE SOLVING PROBLEM... well, you currently have a PROBLEM, why did you come here? why not solve it yourself.... lol.. SEE BROS, it is not by loving to solve problems o.... IN ALL SECTORS IN ICT THERE ARE PROBLEMS... it does not mean you are the kind that can solve all of them... ONLY YOU CAN DECIDE WHICH ONE IS BEST FOR YOU.

NO ONE HERE CAN HELP YOU SIR.

Your question is the kind that only a person who KNOWS you can solve, and you are the only one who KNOWS YOURSELF better than we can ever know. I believe you are LOOKING FOR YAHOO MONEY or QUICK BIG CASH... earning above 100k IS A BLESSING but management or transportation may be the secret reason why it is never enough for you.

Go and learn about INVESTMENTS and build your finances slowly but surely.... THERE IS NO ICT SECTOR THAT IS OPEN OR FREE WITHOUT COMPETITION.... if you couldn't thrive with database(which is the easiest) then you can not thrive with others....

Imagine you knew how to program applications... DO YOU KNOW THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS in Nigeria who can program too? and they even have more connections than you?

So this is NIGERIA. it is no longer your SKILL... but WHO YOU KNOW that can guarantee you anything.

Pls be informed and act accordingly.

Well unlike other courses of study I.T is quite dynamic and addictive, so what you think is knowledge today isn't applicable tomorrow hence the need for continue learning. There is Big Data,AI as well as other promising field like the IoT. My advise is for you to seek remote opportunities rather than looking for a paid job in Nigeria.

By the time you learn the IT finish, you will later find out you need connection to get the IT job. Many has thread this path 50% ran away, 20% are stuck, 10% are scammers and the 20% are earning. It isn't as easy as you think.

Anyway forward from here, is to find a niche and start, if you start and your passion seem to sync with it, you will go places else grin grin grin na 5k job you go come dey beg for nairaland o.

Bros go learn website design or with your db skills freelance. I realised that jobs for programmers outside of web development are really hard to come by these days.
