''The future of football is feminine" says FIFA President Sepp Blatter and I dare say it's true for Nigeria at least. . .a trip to the National stadium on a Saturday will convince you grin tongue

Six African Women Championship trophies. . .many more to come I believe, ranked numero uno in Africa, #27 in the World, participated in all FIFA Women World Cups. . . .with a Quarter Final Appearance in '99, even had a player. . .Cynthia Uwak making a FIFA Ballon d'Or top 10 shortlist. . . Damn! The ladies beat our men in every area and as such we can't ignore them anymore, hence this thread.

Alright, lets fast-forward to the present. . .The Super Falcons are set to play their German counterparts in an International friendly match at the 30,200 capacity Bay Arena Stadium in Leverkusen, Germany on Thursday 25th November in preparation for the Women World Cup billed to hold in Germany from June 26th - July 17th 2011.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria who were just crowned African Champions at the African Women Championship in South Africa are ranked 1st in Africa and 27th in the world while the German Female National team, also called Die Nationalelf (The First Eleven) , are the reigning European and World champions and are ranked 1st in Europe and #2 in the world. Both teams apart from being continental champions are managed by former female footballers turned coaches. The Nigeria team is managed by Uche Eucharia while the Die Nationalelf is being coached by SiLvia Neid.

The Germans will be missing the services of Kim Kullig and Célia Okoyino da Mbabi due to injury but can look up to Birgit Prinz (3 times FIFA player of the Year), Alexandria Popp (MVP and Golden boot winner of U-20 World Cup), Anja Mittag and co for victory while the Nigerians will be hoping Perpetua Nkwocha, Stella Mbachu, Desire Oparanozie, Rita Chikwelu, Helen Ukaonu et al will continue from where they left off at the AWC.

Sivia Neid, the Coach of the German team was quoted to have said at the last U-20 Championship that ''The Nigerians have impressed me tremendously. I've watch them for quite some time and appreciate the development of the Nigerian women's soccer a lot. . .their appearance at the finals was no surprise at all as they have athletic and technically skilled players.".  On this game, she has also said the Falcons will be a good test for her team and she's looking to her team playing well and winning.

Uche Eucharia, coach of the Falcons on the other hand has said “Personally, I am happy because this game will help us to know our players better and it will also help us to begin early preparation for the World Cup holding next year''. She has however informed that the friendly tie is not going to be a do or die affair for her girls but a match for them to learn how to prepare against more formidable oppositions during the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Match is slated to kick off at 18.00 hrs (6pm) in Leverkusen, Germany and 18.00 hrs (6pm) in Nigeria also.

So who wins this match? Lets know what you think. . . . .

Hopefully, we'd get to see the match on TV but if we don't, we'll just turn this thread into an avenue to curse the Government, Sports Ministry or is it National Sports Commission now?, the NFF, NTA, AIT and rant about how the women are always being discriminated against and how they always play second fiddle to the men tongue grin

Hell, if AIT was willing to show a Grade-B friendly match between Nigeria and Iran for the men, then I see no reason why they shouldn't show a Grade-A friendly match between Nigeria and Germany for the Women.

The match will be played in this beautiful stadium. . . the Leverkusen Bay Arena, home ground of Bayer Leverkusen in the German League. Its also one of the 9 stadia designated to host the world cup so this friendly will be a good opportunity for the Falcons to feel the tuff  tongue

There is a question mark at the end of the title which means that it's not certain that they will lose. I really hope that the match will be televised, although it must likely will not be, even the AWC was not televised.

The Germans have announced a crack squad that is made up of mostly players from their two top clubs- FFC Frankfurt and FFC Turbine Potsdam for this match. Hope our girls don't return with a basket full of goals wink tongue

@Poster AIT will show the match.
me thinks, the Falcons with the infusion of the Falconets have improved technically and with a little luck, they can come out with a respectable result against the German Ladies. football is no Mathematics.

Well, they should after all they're official broadcast partners of the NFF. Still, I'm not raising my hopes too high cos more than a week to the botched Super Eagles-Iran match, the advert was already running on their station but just days to this Falcons match, I'm yet to see an advert on their station.

If AIT was willing to show a Grade-B friendly match between Nigeria and Iran that was to be played in faraway Iran, then there is absolutely no reason they shouldn't transmit a Grade-A Falcons friendly match that is going to be played in Western Europe and will be carried by one of Germany's major TV Networks.

True. . .they have improved a lot and I think our days of losing scandalously are over . I hope the NFF organizes more Grade-A friendlies like this one for the team as they prepare for Germany.

Hopefully if they get a respectable result against Germany, other world cup bound teams will invite them for friendlies.  It'd be nice to see them play against top Female Football playing teams like USA, Sweden, Norway, Australia, China, DPR Korea etc.

German test, good for us – Falcons

SOURCE

Uche Eucharia      ^^^^Faults timing of the match
^^^^Germany match a good test for her team
^^^^To give as many players as possible the opportunity to play
^^^^Nigerians should not expect too much from her team

The Super Falcons gearing up for the international friendly against their German counterparts scheduled to hold on Thursday have described the game as a big test for them after their triumph at the 2010 Caf African Women’s Championship in South Africa this month.

Eighteen players and eight officials left the shores of Nigeria for the tune-up game against the women’s world champions on Monday night from Abuja.

Head coach of the Nigerian team, Eucharia Uche, though frowned at the timing of the friendly match, she believes that the quality of the opponents will serve as a good test for his African-conquering side.

“Personally I think the timing of the friendly match is wrong considering the fact that we just finished a difficult competition in South Africa. But we will go ahead and play this one because the football federation had brokered the deal and we believe it is good for us.

“Also, playing against the world champions just after winning the African title is a good test for us. But we will go there and give our best against the world champions,” Uche told SuperSport.com.

But she said Nigerians should not expect too much from her side since it is just a warm-up game. “It is a friendly match, so I don’t think we will play under pressure. We will give as many players the opportunity to play since it is a friendly match,” she said.

Uche is also hoping that the Nigerian FA will continue to arrange top friendly matches for her team ahead of the 2011 Fifa Women’s World Cup.

Captain of the team, Precious Dede, also corroborated the words of her coach saying the game will be a massive test for the Super Falcons.

“They (the Germans) are the world champions. Though it is a friendly it will not be an easy game. But as African champions we will do our best in the game,” said Dede.

Ebi tips Falcons for Germany win

Super Falcons defender, Onome Ebi is looking forward to a victory when the reigning African Women’s Competition (AWC) champions take on world champions, Germany in Bonn on Thursday.

Falcons coach, Eucharia Uche had criticized the timing of the game for coming so close on the heels of the 2010 AWC in South Africa but Ebi says the lasses will be up for the challenge against the European heavy weights.

She told SuperSport.com that the game against the Germans represented a golden opportunity for useful lessons from a very good team.

“They are the best in the world so expect them to put up a good display. But we will not be scared of them and we expect a good game tomorrow (Thursday),” she said.

The Deutsche Fußballnationalmannschaft der Frauen are the joint most successful team in Women’s football in the world, an honour they share with the United States but the Djurgadens IF star says her teammates will not be overawed.

“We will respect them. We will not fear them because our girls are also exposed. We hope to get a good result because it will help our confidence,” Ebi said.

Germany won the last two editions of the Fifa women’s world cup in 2003 and 2007 and also finished in third place at the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympic games.

NFF board members, Musa Ahmadu, Emmanuel Ikpeme are part of the 28 man Falcons contingent in Germany.

Too many quacks parading as journalists undecided

How can supersport report the match is to be played in Bonn when the German Football Association and ARD TV Station (which will televise the match in Germany) have it bodly written on their websites that the match is to be played in Leverkusen

A Nigerian TV Station even went as far as saying the match will kick off at 2PM Nigerian time (when the match is scheduled for 6PM in Leverkusen, Germany) or is the time difference between Nigeria and Germany now four hours?   A simple online check would have given them the correct time of the match in Nigeria.
