Data Sources (odbc) Drivers Missing In Win 7 Ultimate by luckyCO(m): 10:30am On Dec 01, 2010
Please who have had this experience?
I had Win 7 Home basic, ODBC drivers were missing, so I thought It was becos of version, I then bought Win 7 Ultimate still same problem. I have Installed ODBC 3.5 and successful but when I open ODBC Manage I will not see any working driver.

What do I do,plz very urgent?

I use Dotnet2008 with MySQL
My problem is that in ODBC Manage, I only saw SQLserver and access, but in ordinary OS, one can see many of them
So I want what to do to get them displayed.
Thanks

When you say ODBC Manage, are you referring to Microsoft ODBC DataSource Administrator?   This tool allows you to manually add more data sources to your list via the add button.

@luckyCO: Well, since you want connect to a MySQL database from a .NET application, after having properly installed .NET, the MySQL database, created a user and granted its privileges. You will need to use a connector package, which is a piece of software that acts as a bridge between a database and a programming language.  The name of the package that enables .NET based applications to connect or access a MySQL database server is : MySQL Connector/Net (http://www.linglom.com/2009/03/06/accessing-mysql-on-vbnet-using-mysql-connectornet-part-v-install-mysql-connector-net/).

More information on how to create a connection between .NET and MySQL, execute basic SQL query operations ( such as SELECT and INSERT) from .NET to MySQL and displaying the query data can be found here : http://www.linglom.com/2009/02/12/accessing-mysql-on-vbnet-using-mysql-connectornet-part-i-introduction/

Hope this helps, Cheers !!!

I have used MySQL connector to connect MySQL but if fails when I have date/time among my fields.
But If you try ODBC connector 3.5 or 5.1 it works very well.

Since that wasn't working I now resorted to using ODBC.
But my concern is as usual in all Microsoft OS, they used to add some database drivers, then after I must have installed ODBC connector 3.5, it will appear among the list.

But to my greatest surprise the ODBC Data source Manager only shows MSSQL driver and non working access driver.
My only concern is a way to bring it out in Win 7 Ultimate, if it not possible then I will do something else.

@luckyCo: There have always been problems concerning MySQL drivers not showing up in Micrsoft ODBC's package, right from Windows 2000 and XP. Could you provide more details of the error concerning  MySQL Connector/NET not being able to connect to MySQL when you use date/time fields.

Cheers !!

When I use query it run sql statement including date or time I would see system.time or system.date, I hv tried version 5.1,2,3,6.1,2 but still the same thing.
My SQL connection has no problem with XP, I hv been using it since 2006 no problem.
It also show & works in vista even in windows 7, but not until I encounter this basic-ultimate of Win 7 though not in Hp nor Dell system.

@luckyCO : since your running on windows ultimate 7 your best bet is find the MySQL connector/.NET that is compatible with your version of windows.
