South African Killings: Authorities yet to confirm culprit, says Dabiri-Erewa



The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerians In the Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, yesterday, condemned the killing of two South Africans, a Police officer and his cousin, last Wednesday. A Nigerian was said to have stabbed Constable Nico Visagie and his cousin to death.

The incident led to violent clashes in Keimoes and Upington areas of Northern Cape of the country, causing the authority to issue a 12-hour ultimatum to Nigerians and other foreign nationals residing in those areas to vacate the communities.

But in her reaction, Dabiri-Erewa, however, noted that Nigerian Consular in the country was yet to confirm the allegation against the Nigerian. While commending the South African Police for arresting the situation timely, she said the Nigerian government was awaiting further update on the matter.

The Police was said to have intervened timely and curtailed the civil disturbances caused by the incident. Several Nigerians have been killed in South Africa in the past few years during xenophobia attacks. It was not certain what led to the latest incident or what actions the Nigerian government had taken or was taking to ensure the safety of its citizens and their properties in the province and other parts of South Africa at the expiration of the ultimatum.

Always respect the laws of any foreign land.
As long as you are legal, law abiding and doing a legit business. No one will disturb you unnecessarily. SA has laws, they sanction their officers too, they can’t prosecute you as long as you are not guilty or doing anything bad.

Every law of any country is to better its country , allowing foreigners is only a privilege, it is never your right as a foreigner.
