My answer: majority of the Lebanese are of Semitic origin while a tiny but visible microcosm are descended from European peoples or races.

To start with, there are a number of Lebanese who do not see themselves as "Arabs". Such Lebanese believe that asides linguistic affinities, they have nothing much in common with other Arab people's of the Middle East or elsewhere.

Google-search "Lebanese Phalanges Party". They are the main proponents of the "Arab identity denial" ideology and they are very aggressive about it. The Phalanges prefer to refer to themselves as "Lebanese" rather than "Arabs". The ideology is otherwise known as "Phoenicianism".

Phoenicianism as an ideology posits that genetically, Lebanese are descended from Phoenicians and not Arabs. But then, the Phoenicians were a Semitic people just like the Arabs. Nothing European about the Phoenicians generally.

But then, I would like to point something out to you. If some(emphasis on the word "some" ) Lebanese look anything European, then it can best be explain by the fact that some of them to some degree have mixed ancestry.

Some Lebanese are either partly or wholly descended from races that have inhabited or dominated the region where you now have Lebanon over the centuries; Some Lebanese are either partly or wholly Armenian, some are either partly or wholly Circassian{a Indo-European people of Turkic stock}, others are from other peoples of the Eurasian steppes region or Western European Crusaders.

Then, there are those also descended from Persians, Greeks and Turks(&Lebanon was a part of various Ottoman States at different times, notably the Ottoman Empire before it came under French control after WW I).

So, in essence, some 2-10% of the Lebanese population have some links to Europe or European races, while the overwhelming majority are largely of Semitic stock, descending from Phoenician and Canaanite nations.

Then, there are also those also descended from Arab conquerors who also swept through the region starting from the 7th century AD.

Just know one thing. Not all Lebanese "look like Europeans". You must have been seeing those types of Lebanese a lot and that must have led you to believe that all Lebanese "don't look like Arabs at all".

Which is in itself erroneous and brings to mind the question:

My answer is simple. No. There is no one size fits all approach towards identifying what an Arab looks like.
