The Nigerian system is responsible for the entire collapse of the education system. I pity those rushing into Nigerian institutions these days. The soup don sour finish, more watery and tasteless almost.

Instead of reading your books and getting a better grade in the course of study ,you are busy running around on social media.
When you have an extra year ,then you will know what a school is and social media is not !!!

Pharmacy is too tough in OAU
Imagine offering BCH303 as an elective!!!
Course that's a core course for BCH students, even they struggle to pass it.
Our educational system needs reviewing, and the culprit is, our students this days are getting extremely LAZY, they want to flex too much while studying.

In an ideal setting, you are supposed to do a 4 year biochemistry course before you apply for pharmacy and most most universities abroad will give you Dr of pharmacy when you are done. Chemistry is the bedrock of pharmacy

In abroad, the lecturers would be in serious trouble by now. It is an indication of failure on their part. Their inability to educate properly or teach their students.

Nigeria education is fundamentally deficient largely due to parochial and archaic lectures and lecture system.

In developed universities, a lecturer once he or she notices a dip in your thesis or assignments, he arranges a meeting with you to discuss what the issues may be with you. He can go as far as referring you to Guidance and Counseling unit. They go the length to have you understand. A school's performance should never be judged on mass failure.

This is a testament of their porous method of teaching, the whole department needs a complete overhaul, the school should sack the lectures taking that course.
Nigeria education might be below global standard but medical sciences and related discipline is giving due attention in Nigeria. How do you think Nigeria was able to produce great Doctors that are sought out all over the world.

But these students aced their WAEC, JAMB and university entrance exams before they were admitted. How come they failed in this manner Are we sure lecturers are not culpable

Sometimes lecturers decide to fail students for no fault of theirs especially in pharmacy schools! I experienced that when I was in pharmacy school! They do that because they know that students don't usually have the guts to challenge such poor results.
Thank God for seeing me through!

OAU's School of Pharmacy is the world's most difficult Pharmacy Dept. no contest! During my time at OAU, the highest number of students I ever saw graduate from that Dept. at one time was 7!!!

You have to be on your A game to hang with these guys.

The attitude of student this days deserve worse than above results though school has an avergely 95% responsibility to curb such a lacadesical attitude.
A student in professional course has no business with social media interaction, has no business with music. The least mention is their ways of life unlike while we are in school then that you will receive discipline by all means to become a professional.
I think our system of education need to be seriously look into, regarding student life styles

My summation is that our educational system is flawed, how do you explain people who by JAMB standard can cope with the pharmacy course failing massively. Either, JAMB or the lecturers is the problem. Please, dont tell me it is the students because if it was a few students that failed, it is understandable.

My litmus test; those that have graduated from that department, what medical or pharmaceutical breakthrough have they achieved since they make it look like those that passed have ten heads than others.

Anyway, what do I know I am not an academic pharmacist, the association should look into the program.

I disagree with you that a student studying a professional course has no business with social media interactions! That is how we end up producing some antisocial elements who don't know their lefts from their rights except cramming and regurgitating what other people worked for and end up scoring "A" grades that add no meaningful values to themselves and the society!
In the west, are students in professional courses not on social media Why do we always like to chase shadows instead tackling the main problems
In fact, social media interactions should even aid student's performance as it can help broaden the student's understanding of their courses and the society generally, especially in this era of massive unemployment!

The scripts of those students should be remarked by external unbiased lecturers! I'm sure the performance would be a lot better when external lecturers remark their scripts!!!

I think this is true. Many people study courses that they have no natural love or passion for. The only motivation for many is the socio-economic benefit not because they have a natural affinity or inclination for the course.

I can tell you that every OAU student is brilliant because no matter what you must score 200 in jamb and post-jamb before you can get admission. Anything less than 200 is automatically no admission - even if your father is Buhari and your godfather is Trump!

But the problem is many students are using their brilliance in the wrong direction. Each course has its peculiar needs. Someone who's brain was created for education will want to kill himself because of medicine or pharmacy.

I suggest that they review our educational Systems.

Also that they give proper guidance and exposure to secondary school students about other courses; how they improve the society and examples of successful people in those fields.

Me as an example, my father saw me as a wasted effort when I insisted on studying geography. According to his calculation, the only opportunity for a geography graduate is teaching. Well maybe that's true if I relied on my certificate alone. But no, I retrained and re-educated myself and today doctor na king for him lane and I'm a king in my lane.

But to be candid, if other departments wanted to train us to the real standard -haa!- 70% (in fact 90%) of us will not graduate. Unfortunately, health sciences don't have the luxury of push-and-go since they deal directly with human life.
going for professional courses is like a free meal ticket in Nigeria, I was in this line of thought but recently I think it is the right choice to go for the professional courses. How many other Nigerians studied what you studied and are kings also? The ratio is low compared to those going for professional courses.
