My Body's On Alcohol by airminem(f): 6:27am On Mar 01, 2020
I've had a lot of worries this past year. Husband-health concerns. Kids concerns. My father dying eight sad months ago...and not long thereafter, my mother, whom I loved very much-and I stil need her so sad
But the alcohol drinks-or in my case, the vodka-has been helping me forget, a little too much nd too often. I'm a nice woman from a teetotaling family, but, as life's pressures have mountd, i've begun feeling as though I've gone from enjoying one Cosmo at the end of the day to needing one.But is it really so bad to enjoy a glass or more of something after work/evening?
* Have you ever felt you should cut down on ur drinking?
* Have you ever had a drink first thing in the morning to steady ur nerves, get rid of a hangover, or as an eye-opener?
* Have you ever felt guilty or bad about your drinking?

I used to drink only when i was out with friends. Now i am reaching for the bottle the moment i am home. I tried to be moderate but no-way.

Expecting a candid opinion from Nairalanders. Thank you

You're on the right course. No cause for alarm. Alcohol is good for the system. It helps calm the nerves down. Alcohol over Girlfriend, anyday, anytime, twice on Fridays!!!

Is it true women are more vulnerable to alcohol's effects..?

Alcohol, when taken in moderation, is good for the health. But in your case, you are addicted to it already. Try to cut down on your intake. Remember that alcohol does not take away your worries and fears, these remains after the alcohol wears off eventually. And you are doing your system a whole lot of harm if you continue on this routine.

Try to reduce the quantity of alcohol you consume on a daily basis. The alcoholic content in Vodka is high, try taking red wine instead or beer (reduced quantity).

Engage your mind on other things like learning a new skill, running or making new friends. Go for a general medical checkup....

Nice that you open up on a faceless forum like this.
The next step should be to find a psychotherapist to help clear up your thoughts and refocus your energy to positive things. I hope that you will find one soon enough and start your sessions asap.
Best.

A psychiatrist may be going TOO far.
A psychotherapist should be enough for you.

The three main differences between psychiatrists and psychologists are:

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, psychologists are not.

Psychiatrists prescribe medication, psychologists can't.
Psychiatrists diagnose illness, manage treatment and provide a range of therapies for complex and serious mental illness. Psychologists focus on providing psychotherapy (talk therapy) to help patients.
Many people get psychiatrists and psychologists confused with each other.

Both psychiatrists and psychologists understand how the brain works, our emotions, feelings and thoughts. Both can treat mental illness with psychological treatments (talking therapies).

However, psychiatrists attend medical school and become medical doctors before doing specialist training in mental health. Because they are doctors, psychiatrists understand the links between mental and physical problems. They can also prescribe medications.

I don't know why people love to pathologise some folks' normal behaviour.

You are not an inch close to being an alcoholic when one considers all you described above. You even drink at home (which is respectable). The euphoria that alcohol brings is exciting no doubt but addictions are judged by the negative consequences of one's actions, one that you have not exhibited by your decent love of Vodka.

There is nothing wrong going for medical check ups but this one you did right here is trying to find a problem where it doesn't exist.

No mind this one o airminem.
How about your husband?
He should be your dad & mom now.
Be rest assured that God loves you an tomorrow ll be better.
I won't also right off alcohol cos I take some a times. But you must not be addicted. The best solution is to always reassure yourself that there's a good future. Be strong in the mind.
Peace.
