We say, "1000 dollars."
(dollars -- PLURAL)

We say, "1000 euros."
(euros -- PLURAL)

We say, "1000 cedis."
(cedis -- PLURAL)

And so on.

But we don't say, "1000 nairas."

Rather, we say, "1000 naira."
(naira -- SINGULAR)

Why?

NOT about copying them, bro. How about the Ghanaian cedi? We say "cedis" (plural)—for cedi amounts greater than 1 cedi.

We say "euros". We say "pounds". We say "rands" (South Africa)... for money amounts greater than "1.0" unit of these currencies.

For me, there's no wisdom or logic in keeping a naira quantity over one naira as a singular naira.

Oh Shut up!!! Isnt it logical dat everything dat is singular has a plural?? Do U think wen u sound like dis it makes u sound smart?? Are u also licking the white man's ass by calling people from Nigeria Nigerians instead of his Nigerian?

NOTE: Not all Nouns end with the letter "s" in plural form.
Example:
PERCENT is PERCENT
SHEEP is SHEEP

Same applies to NAIRA
The plural of
Naira is Naira/Nairas.
The choice of which to use is left to the speaker/writer.

Both are correct and valid, but the main reason many prefer to use Naira more often than Nairas is because it sounds better.
