Yar'adua In Suit? by abbgstar(m): 6:00am On Jun 06, 2007
Hi Guys,
I checked the dailies today and saw the pix of our new president, Umar Musa Yar'Adua in traditional Igbo attire and wondered what he would look like in three piece suit. Can anybody in house imagine what he would look like? Just wondering.

i've been wondering why it's kinda a big deal (from the forum of course) when Nigerian presidents wear suit. i've also noticed that i've never seen any wearing a suit. I heard that news anchormen and women in Nigeria must wear tradition attire when presenting. Is this also the case for the president?

I hope he wears one to the G8 meeting, If he does I will be greatly entertained. Anyway, Mbeki, a black president wore suit to the swearing - in ceremony of Yar' Adua same with the President of Ghana. Nelson Mandela, a foremost African, wears suit often so I dont know how handy the argument of promoting African culture is.

Do these people set the standard for Nigeria?

And so?, does that imply that every African president must walk in there footsteps? I think it promotes the African culture when its leaders wear Native attires.

@angel101,

Do these people set the standard for Nigeria?
Should be! We will expect our leaders to lead by example. The Obasanjo administration banned the importation of clothes so as to encourage our local industries. If he was known to have an avid taste for foreign baffs, who would take his policy serious? Our leaders are meant to be role models in everything and this really shouldn't be an exception.
