And i have lived in Uyo for the past 5 years, in different neighbourhoods. Come to ebonyi where i'm from, I lived there for 18 years and knew only one divorced couple. Upon I lived in 3different densed areas.

Hausa marriages last as well. I found out that most of my brother's secondary school friends in Jos got married before they completed their secondary school education. Some married during their higher institution. They are very happy with their families. I can't tell about the Yorubas because I haven't really stayed with them. But most late marriages are usually found among Igbos

So you mean all these high divorces flying around, Igbos are exempted? Last year, I attended a friend's marriage in Enugu. A month after the marriage, the wife wrote me that she was no longer interested in the marriage. Within my community, I know of not less than 5 who divorced less than a year into the marriage

It is a well know fact that Igbo men strive to achieve as much wealth to be able to pay the very heavy bride prices levied on them if they decide to marry from their kin, most Igbo women come into a ready made home full of the man's lone struggles all the days of his youth till date, that's why an Igbo woman who loves her hubby cannot claim all his inheritance because she wasn't there when he struggled for it, his own family who were with him have the say about that.

Igbo women know they have to keep married despite any bad issues they might face in their marriages and must be willing to pay back the heavy bride price the hubby paid to have them.

As an nwa afo Igbo, here is my take

1. An Igbo man wants his wife looking good. Reason, an Igbo man will go to the village and pick one mgbeke, in less than one year, you will not recognize the girl again due to excess transformation

2. An Igbo man prefers a housewife.
An average igbo man cannot allow his wife to be hawking or doing some dirty jobs that will leave her looking tattered at the end of the day. Reason, he works hard to ensure he is stable enough to provide for his wife and children to be

3. An average igbo man wants to build a house at least, in the village before getting married. The culture of Igbos wanting to travel to the village every Christmas plays a great role here

4. Most Igbo men go to school first before venturing into business. I know most of my secondary school classmates that finished university before going to do business or at least, took Waec.

5. I need to create a separate thread for this and write comprehensive list of why igbos marry late and the cons and pros.

Trust me, I earn decent income now, have had some of my secondary school and university coursemates married, but I am not reasoning marriage any time soon.

I told one girl hoping on me that I will finish my PhD before getting married and she was cursing (currently running my masters).
