The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) on Saturday officially announced that Lazarus Chakwera is the winner of Tuesday’s presidential re-run election.

The chairperson of MEC, Justice Chifundo Kachale said that Chakwera, leader of the Tonse Allaince won 2,604,043 votes, which is 58.5 percent of the total votes cast.

While president Peter Mutharika of the DPP/UDF alliance was second with a total of 1,751,877 votes. And the third candidate Mbakuwaku Movement Peter Kuwani managed bagged a total of 33,456 votes.
