To start with with, are BMs relaible?
For someone coming from Toyota to try out BMW X3 SUV what is expected
Does that brand have issues of note, is x3 reliable in terms of engine, ease of maintenance , of parts and the fuel consumption
These are salient questions on my head , please anyone with ideas can help

Bros it’s fine if you want to explore your car enthusiasm with a BMW, but keep your Toyota, you’ll need it.

Avoid the 1st generation BMW x3 especially 2003 to 2006. After more than 15 years of production, a lot of parts are prone to failure.
I have owned a 2012 x3 since 2015. It has been a reliable fun to drive machine. One major reason i love my car is that it's not common.
Aside routine servicing which i do twice a year, the major parts i have changed the past 5 years are ac compressor/condenser. Being a car that is driven on terrible Lagos roads, I have also had to change both front and rear shocks, lower arm bushings, stabilizer linkages and bushings, wheel speed sensors and other leg parts that are prone to wear and tear.
Parts are readily available at Ojekunle street Ladipo. Both new and tokunbo.
I drive from Lagos to the East at least twice every year to visit my parents and i have never had any breakdown.
My advice, if you want to be different, if you want to experience real driving pleasure, pls go for it. You won't have any regrets.

This is true. I used to work on BMW's and the second generation of the X3 is very reliable especially the six cylinder engines. The four cylinder engines are also reliable provided you use the right oil and take the maintenance seriously. The BMW's i would advise people to avoid are the mostly anything that comes with the V8 engines. Avoid them drastically. They are horribly made. No amount of maintenance will prevent catastrophic engine failure.

Thanks Brother for this info. I'm seriously considering getting myself the same car, ie bmw x3 2012 model, haven used an x5 for 2005 for 5 years now. However, my worry is part availability, cost compared to my x5, and can it withstand daily hustling commute?

Hello bosses. Since its a BMW thread, is this car a good car for a first timer? I drove the car once and I must say, German is the truth. cool its ala not that common. I hate common cars... undecided

I believe good maintenance is not my problem. The question is, is the car reliable? I might be traveling once in a while as a destination photographer. Should I go for it?
