THE Presidency Tuesday said that the security situation in Southern Kaduna was complicated because of the penchant for revenge among different interest groups.


The Presidency also warned people against taking the law into their own hands which makes the job of security personnel more difficult in the area.

Instead, they should report any security breach or threat to peace to the law enforcement agencies.

In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, the Presidency noted that revenge and counter-revenge only creates a circle of violence, thereby making everyone else unsafe, especially innocent people.


The statement read: “The Presidency wishes to state that the problem of insecurity in Southern Kaduna State is more complicated than many people are willing to admit.


“From available records, Southern Kaduna enjoys comprehensive security deployments, including the Army, Special Forces of both the Army and the Air Force, surveillance aircraft by the Air Force and mobile police units that are on the ground on a 24-hour basis to forestall criminality and keep the peace.


“But unlike other parts of the country, the problem of Southern Kaduna is more complicated than many critics are ready to acknowledge and understand.

“From available security records, the problem in Southern Kaduna is an evil combination of politically-motivated banditry, revenge killings and mutual violence by criminal gangs acting on ethnic and religious grounds.

“It is a situation in which one criminal group will kill a member of another criminal group out of ethnic and religious motivations which in turn leads to the eruption of revenge and counter-revenge, thereby making the job of the security personnel deployed to protect lives more difficult.


“We note that revenge and counter-revenge only creates a circle of violence, thereby making everyone else unsafe, especially innocent people.”

“The Presidency advises the people against taking the law into their own hands which makes the job of security personnel more difficult. Instead, they should report any security breach or threat to peace to the law enforcement agencies.”

On the panacea to bring peace, the statement added: “What is required is for the local authorities to radically improve their intelligence capabilities so that security agencies will be alerted in a timely manner to enable them to forestall any planned attacks.


“The Presidency, in the same manner, condemns the recent attacks by bandits in Igali, Birnin Gwari and Giwa local government areas of the State while urging security agencies to intensify their response.”

Revenge killings is always a product of no justice to victims. Unfortunately this has always been the trend of killings in Northern Nigeria.

There is always a vested interest in the hands of security agents to protect some sacred cows whenever such killings takes place.
Victims are left with no other option that to take laws into their hands to avenge the death of their loved ones.

Way out of it is to start using people to set examples. Security agents need to make sure that every killings is followed up to implement
a holistic justice for the victims. The north has continued to trend the path of anarchy and its just a matter of time before they realised what
they have done to themselves. All these stupid hailing of how they are courageous by some uninformed people will do them no good.

Even the governor of the state once made boast that whoever killed Fulani will never escape revenge. Revenge from who exactly? Shouldn't it be
the work of the government to fish out killers of anybody?? The government are only busy with looting while the masses kill themselves.

A country without a good justice system is heading towards anarchy. To be a Nigerian is surely not a day job.
