What Is Your Opinion On GMOs & Hybrid Seeds? by AloyalNigerian(m): 12:24am On Aug 06, 2020
Whenever GMO is mentioned, the first thing that might cross your mind is "cancer". grin . I understand that the idea of GMO is scary and we find it difficult to come to terms with that fact. For real, how can you tell me that you extracted a gene responsible for a desirable trait from an organism (mostly bacteria) and then incorporated same into the genome of a plant.

However, I won't want to go with the bandwagon. I have my reservation about this topic because I have carefully examined diverse experts' opinions. I concluded that those who don't want GMOs are simply scared of the unknown. Well, I am still skeptical about it too.

Although, GMO is broadly welcomed if it's not aimed towards the production of food to be consumed.

Are you aware that Nigeria approved her first GMO few months ago. It is pest-resistant Bt cotton proposed to revitalize the dying textile industry. Bt cotton include a gene from Bacillus thuringiensis. I guess this is the benefit of GMO we can all accept?

Many farmers use hybrid seeds because of its numerous advantages.

What do you think about GMOs? Are hybrid seeds really what the hype? Do you use them?

Meanwhile, you can check this post on FarmSquare on this same topic and may be comment too wink :
