Just a few days ago, Reps summons DStv over price increment in the subscription packages, and now, DStv has increased the price Compact and Compact plus has been increased and Nigerians are not happy about it.


In a notice sent by the services provided to its customers, it said, Dear Customer, please be advised of a price adjustment on your DStv Compact Plus package from 1 September. Your new monthly subscription will be N12,400.
For instance, a Compact Plus Package which comes at a monthly subscription of N10,925 will now go for N12,500. The compact package will now go for N7,900 from the initial price of N6,975. While DStv premium subscription is now N18,400.

However, Nigerians are not happy about it, complaining of paying too much but receiving less than what they pay for. Some of resolved to be streaming football online.

Them don collect bribe,I'll rather stream online instead of paying 18k+ for dstv premium, there are lots of free content out there

Dstv pays $250m for EPL rights and naira in less than a month deprecated from 360 to 470.

Before you blame this people, blame your government.

Just recently, YAYI became a pay TV and they have only six channels that are dedicated to football. They charge about 8$ per month. Now, they have no business with what your currency trades against Dollar

The Nigerian government has consistently failed to check their excesses.

Sadly, there's nothing anyone can do about it.

The new and promising alternatives have all failed.

1. TSTV -- failed in less than a week

2. Kwese TV - failed after a year despite charging 6k for basic and regular channels.

3. Consat TV owned by Tinubu - failed in about 2 years. Name changed to Play TV yet still failing. It's premium channels include TVC, NTA, and Mouth Zion Tv).

4. Montage Cable TV: started operation, failed, and shut down its operation after about a year.


Right now, there are only 2 ways to address this issue:

1. Start a new pay TV company and provide alternative channels to DSTV channels, including Big Brother Naija, Super sport channels, and Africa Magic.

2. Or continue to rant like we have been doing for years.
