Dubai Stopover On Emirates by oge4real(f): 9:09pm On Feb 20, 2011
I will be moving to Australia next month via Emirates and will be having a 9hrs stopover in Dubai. Please i need to know if I will be allowed to go into Dubai town to shop for jewellery. Do I need a transit visa? How do I get it? Also, how advisable is it to go to town or can I buy gold at the dutyfree shops in the airport?
Sorry for so many questions grin Just want to be better informed.
Thank you.
Re: Dubai Stopover On Emirates by dinggle: 10:01pm On Feb 20, 2011
You wont need a transit visa and like no other airport in the world ur shopping for gold is available at the airport. If u wanna go to town apply for Dubai entry visa b4 departure. U need to be watchful because 9hrs is a short time to go to town and return, u don't wanna be in a hurry so u don't end up loosing vital travel documents.
Re: Dubai Stopover On Emirates by oge4real(f): 10:04pm On Feb 20, 2011
9hrs too small? :oGuess I will have to make do with airport shopping. Thanks a lot.
Re: Dubai Stopover On Emirates by dinggle: 10:19pm On Feb 20, 2011
Yup, assuming u r going to town u have to -1hr for immigration formalities while going out of the airport, -30mins for immigration stamps security checking while returning to the airport and -2hrs additional for you to be at the airport before departure for all other protocol, so in all it takes away 3hr:30mins from ur 9hrs which leaves u with 5hr:30mins. Depending on where u r going to shop and what time of the week it is u might come across small traffic in some sections of Dubai, if u going as far as Australia trust me u don't wanna be stressed.
Re: Dubai Stopover On Emirates by AjanleKoko: 11:34pm On Feb 20, 2011
Maybe you might want to spend a whole day in Dubai. Emirates offers an overnight visa arrangement. You can stay for a day overnight at one of those hotels near the airport, then you can go into town for the day. The old souk you can access by metro and taxi - train to Khalid Bin Al Waleed, and cab/bus to Al Sabkha bus station. If you take a cab directly from the airport, it is a lot faster than taking the train, provided it's not rush hour.

The new souk is at Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall, and you might as well shop at the airport, with the kind of prices they offer.
There's usually a lot of traffic going into the city center. Also, when you're shopping, 9 hours can run out real quick.

Nah.
The protocols when travelling with a Naija passport can be done in under an hour - eye scan and immigration stamp. Those guys at Terminal 3 don't mess about, unless you have issues. They don't even chat with people or ask irrelevant questions.

^^Thank you so much. I may as well shop at the airport, just that I was hoping for a better bargain going to the gold market. I hope the airport prices are not cut-throat?

That's what I meant.
Why did he need an agent?
Re: Dubai Stopover On Emirates by expido: 11:02am On Feb 03, 2012
Yes, stupid!!!, A typical Nigerian response, why am I not surprised.

Number 1: Medical school in the U.S is very expensive, that is why a lot of American students opt for cheaper options, The school is predominantly made up of canadians, Nigerians and Americans, most Nigerians come here becos they either failed their medical school in Nigeria or wahtever, some come here becos it is cheaper, I came here becos it is cheaper.

Numebr 2: Yes, I have lived in the U.S that long, I am currently working on my green card, I do back and forth, using my student Visa, I dont stay in the U.S and dont come back home like typical Nigerians,

Lastly, I am not surprised by your response, that is why Nigerians are treated like animals all over the world,

If you like call the agent ands use it, mennnnnn, what a country,
Re: Dubai Stopover On Emirates by expido: 11:08am On Feb 03, 2012
@chika, its either you dont read properly or you make assumptions, where in my statement did I say I am an American citizen, I left Nigeria since 1998 on a student visa, I go back an forth, I have been to Nigeria about maybe 7 times since then, I didnt go to the U.S to stay there , like most Nigerians,

What a shamless country, I was at Brazil and a Nigerian was hand cuffed for using fake visa, Needless to say, I was ashamed to be a Nigerian,

You think I will just come up here and warn people, I am actually AFRAID of this forum/website, I only signed up to warn people,

Een if I came to St. kitts becos of low MCAT scores, what is the significance of that? What does that have to do with my experience with the agent?, I would not be surprised if you probably know the agent , what a country,

You should know that more Americans and Canadians study medicine in the caribbean than they do in their home countries respectively - United States and Canada.

Apart from the fact that it is expensive, US and Canadian medical school admission is very VERY competitive. Some applicants are even put on waiting list for years. Along the line, most applicants throw away their MD dream and take the DO career path, which is relatively easier to get into.

You think there are many Nigerians studying on the caribbean islands? Yeah, you're right. And FYI, many Nigerians are being denied student visas by these caribbean countries in recent months. So, invariably these countries know and they are cutting down the numbers.

Caribbean countries where we were once visa-free travel to, now require visas, and to make matters worse, they deny visas a lot now (regardless of if you've paid your tuition or not).

God help Nigeria!

Calm yourself ogbeni.
We are only surprised that you, having lived in the US for so long, would need to go through a Nigerian agent based in Nigeria, to get a visa to St Kitts.
It sounds implausible. Can't you get a student visa to St. Kitts from the US? Or are you not a legal permanent resident in the US?

Stop making noise all over Nairaland please. It is questionable because you say you're extremely smart yet someone else ripped you off. Why didn't you process the visa yourself?
See that bold bit, a 5th grader won't even say something like that. Epic fail!

@justwise, isnt it funny that you are the same person that dissed this "kenforum" guy that duped me , see the link below

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=353801.msg4949909#msg4949909

IF I had seen tthis before i gave this guy my 0.65 million naira ( for those that dont know what this means, it means 650,000 naira) , then I wouldnt have used him for my ticket, again NOT VISA, I go to the embassy if I need a VISA NOT a traveling agent.

Being duped as nothing to do with intelligence, as a client, my job is to trust my service provider and give the money ( well, I think I am only thinking in an ideal situation), but I guess nothing is ideal in nigeria, I forgot I am not in the U.S, so I guess I am not intelligent afterall, isnt it?

I think I get what he is saying now.
He paid an agent to get him a ticket to St Kitts, and not a visa. So maybe we shouldn't be too harsh on him.

But I think he could have used Expedia or some other ticketing website to make a reservation, especially since he lives in the U.S. He didn't have to use a Nigerian agent.

You actually believed that he sent an agent N650.000= equivalent of $4.00283 for a ticket?

That apart, why must he be so rude to every Nigerian because he was 'duped' by a single individual?
