Chapter one

Queen Bee

The rain fell heavily, much to the delights of Melissa who wanted her friend chimamanda, to stay longer so they could be able to talk longer, as chimamanda was allergic to cold.

"What's good looking about him"Mandy asked, placing Melissa's cellphone on her palms.

"Gosh!!! I Think your allergy has affected your eyes finally" Melissa said, forcefully retrieving her phone from chimamanda

"What do you mean?"

"I mean to say that you can't see the beauty of this soul, the handsomeness of his face, the broadness of his shoulder, the height............"Melissa said with that far away look in her eyes

"Enough!! I've heard just enough"
Melissa sighed. She didn't know why Mandy behaved like this. Well, she didn't care because as far as she was concerned, Mandy's opinions mattered less.

"You know" chimamanda began "that boy,zeb......."

"Zebulun.Thats his name." Melissa snapped
"I wonder who still answers zebulun" Mandy muttered.

"Anyway as I was saying,Zebulun is just some street guy who is obviously a philanderer. He doesn't deserve you, babe".
"How?"
"Well, he's just squatting with a cousin, has no job and actually broke. Just tell me what are you doing with such a guy?" Mandy asked

"I don't care if he's broke I don't need his money".
True Melissa didn't need his money or anybody's money. She just wanted to be loved by a guy whose name, presently, was Zebulun.

Melissa was born into a rich family as the only child. She was tall, slender and very fair in Complexion that she was said to have escaped albinism. Her hair was full and long, her face was a sight to behold as her eyes were large, crowned with long, dark lashes. Her lips pouted each time she spoke. Melissa knew all these and made sure she was noticed everywhere she went. She was quiet in public but her presence always caused an uproar. She was regarded everywhere as a queen. To her friends, she was the queen Bee.

"You might not need his money, but he needs yours. He will just milk you dry and dump your sorry ass. And besides, your parents won't let you near such a guy"
Melissa kept quiet as she read meaning into chimamanda's words. She was barely nineteen and her parents were so overprotective of her as she was the only child. Her younger sister, omalicha, was adopted two years ago when it dawned on her mother that she couldn't have anymore babies. Melissa took care of her like her blood and hoped that her parents would let her be for a while but no, they hung on to her back like parasites. She couldn't understand why they wouldn't let her date a guy of her choice, just once. She had questioned them before and they had sat her down to a tete-a-tete with their parish pastor. She never asked again. She only silently crushed on models, celebrities and cute guys who would be happy to date her.
"As if they would let me near any kind of guy. Remember senator obi's son, Kelly, that guy was my type and he was good looking and sweet. he's an entrepreneur. My parents still Didn't allow me to date him, even though they are family friends." Melissa said bitterly.
"That guy was older than you. He's twenty five!! "Mandy shrieked
" And so freaking what? "
" Damn you! "
" See , I can't date a guy my age. It's gonna be childish. I want a..... like,um.......,yea,a matured relationship with a guy "
Chimamanda stared at her friend with large eyes showing disbelief. You would never learn, she thought.
Melissa giggled and continued ;
" I don't know why you are staring at me that way but I'm being realistic here. Honestly, who do you want me to date? Ossy? who's barely reaching my shoulder or chika, who's always stammering and sweating everytime he sees me ".
" Queen bee" Mandy thought.
" I don't need any relationship with a slowpoke. I want something real with real guys_"
"And what is real about dating Zebulun?" Mandy asked.
" In this case, I wasn't talking about Zebulun. He doesn't even know that am crushing on him but I do know he thinks highly of me and is possibly terrified at the this of approaching me but I'll give him green lights. I'm not a goddess." Melissa said filing her nails.

"I hope you know what you are doing. Really, I don't need stories that touches the heart, later. I've run out of 'sorries' ." Mandy quipped
Melissa frowned.
" Save your sorries, darling, for yourself, that is. You'll need them when you realize that what I'm saying is true."Melissa was born into a rich family as the only child. She was tall, slender and very fair in
"Whatever"
"I wish lovina were here. She would have cheered me on this " Melissa sulked

Lovina was a friend of theirs who had moved to Japan to study musicology. She was a girl with a large build. she was broad with thick thighs. Melissa seemed to like her because she knew everything about boys and stuff.

"OMG,Lovina? Thank you she isn't here! "Mandy shrieked, also laughing.

"What? I haven't seen seen her since we graduated and she flew to Japan. She has even called me since she claimed to have lost her old line. I hope we meet again in life"
" Or in death"

Mandy and Melissa laughed so hard and loud that Adaobi, the maid came running, saying that her mother needed less noise.

"Get lost" Melissa said to Adaobi.

"Ouch" Mandy said

******************

After a while, the sun began to shine while it was drizzling.

" Look , it's a ' monkey's wedding ' " chimamanda said to Melissa who was clearly in deep thought.

"Oh "
"I need to get going before evening comes"
"I'll see you off" Melissa wanted to go out.

Chimamanda stood up clutching her purse against her perfect body. She had an enviable hourglass figure with soft, silky hair which she always showed off as it was lustrous. She was what one could call a beauty, with a light complexion and smooth skin.

"When are you going back to school ?" Mandy asked
Melissa sighed

Mandy and Melissa attended the same University in Ekpoma. While Melissa studied cardiology, Mandy was based in Mass communication. Melissa didn't like science subjects right from high school but her parents wanted her

Melissa didn't like science subjects right from high school but her parents wanted her To become a doctor. She had no choice but to a doctor to treat heart diseases and'heartbreak' she had thought.

"Well, I'll be going next week. I'll go shopping this weekend. Wanna come along ?"

"Of course. I need a few things too" Mandy said thoughtfully

"I told my dad to change the creeky bed of mine, you know, it's old and too noisy"

"You've used that bed barely a year "

" I don't like it any more"

Both girls shared a room in the hostel of a private school. Their room was excessively furnished with too many furnitures, much to the distaste Mandy, who wanted it more spacious.

"I want a queen size bed " Melissa said

"Queen Bee"

Melissa excused herself to go see off her friend. Her mother warned her to be cautious of time because she knew too well that Melissa loved to use opportunities like this to meander.

Melissa was glad to have left those tall fences that day. She used her eyes to search for Zebulun . No one was there.

"What are you looking for?" Mandy asked

"Zebulun"

"Over here"

Melissa looked over at the direction chimamanda was pointing and nearly collapsed at the sight of Zebulun holding some flabby bodied lady . They were talking and laughing as if nothing else mattered in the world.

"Well................." Mandy said,a smile playing on her lips

"I'm done. I'm done with him "

"You never even even talked to him. You were just a secret admirer. You can't be done with someone who...."

"I know.
I'm done being his secret admirer. I'm done crushing on him. I'm done with him. " Melissa said with a note of finality

Many laughed out loud.
