A wise man once said that ' to destroy a nation, one doesn't need atomic bomb but to simply lower the quality of education in that country and encourage examination malpractice'. Through that means, all disciplines of life would be equally affected and ruins will set in. Last week Saturday was the State Common Entrance Examination in my State. My niece wrote the exam. Prior to the exams, the school organised extramural classes for them to prepare them for the exams which lasted for weeks during the lockdown. She came back late in the evening and I inquired how the exams was conducted. She replied that their teacher gave them help during the examination. I was dumbfounded. Being a teacher, I frown against examination malpractice in all its entirety. I believe that there is dignity in labor, that is making some personal sacrifices to achieve a definite success at the end of every academic program. After interrogating her with my brother's wife (her mother), she put a call across to her school teacher and explained her anger on what transpired during the examination. The teacher said that she thought she could change the system but the system and the individuals managing it failed her. She said that in a hall filled with pupils from various schools, it was only hers that struggled to write without help. She further stated that pupils from other schools finished shading the answers 40 minutes into the exams with help from their school teachers. She was forced to join them after reasoning that it's of no use making the pupils sweat while others have written and had long gone. She said even the invigilator was aware of everything that happened. These were her reasons but it makes me to ask which way Nigeria?? Assisting pupils in primary school level to indulge in the act of examination malpractice has really shown the level of decay in our educational system.
What happened to the Giant of Africa?
Who did we offend?
How did we get to this level?

The issue most teachers encounter in school is due to poor performance which has been covered in various stages of elementary school, how many parents will question their child about being given exam aid?
