Bright Chimezie also known as Okoro Junior, is a Nigerian Musician and he calls his style of music "Zzigima music". He is a highlife musician, whose unique style of music blended with electrifying and fantastic dance steps has given him a nationwide acceptance.

He is a cultural ambassador and uses his music to emphasize on the preservation of our African culture. He passing his messages across to his audience in a story telling manner... (one of his popular songs was where he enumerated how he was arrested and accused of committing suicide because he was eating a large mould of eba in Oyibo man country)


Early life
BRIGHT CHIMEZIE was born on the 1st of October 1960, to the family of Reverend and Mrs Ezekiel C. Iromuoh of Ekeoba Village, Umuahia, Abia State. It was a remarkable day for the family, the day was so bright that his family named him "Bright Chimezie".


Bright Chimezie grew up to become musically inclined and at the tender age of 7 he had already joined his clans cultural group called "Igborokiti" where he sang and also beat the cultural drums ( He would later grow to become their leader). His musical dept was further nurtured by his involvement in the Methodist Church Choir, Ekeoba, where he sang the alto part.

He attended secondary school at Ohuhu Community Secondary school, in Umuahia, Abia state, where led the school band and also played with other Eastern traditional groups. At this period he also featured for the first TV performance at NTA Aba. His Golden voice, electrifying dancesteps as well as natural charisma exposed him as a gifted personality, it was only a matter of time before his raw talent crystallizes into visible maturity.

Exploits in Customs Excise Band.....

He joined the Nigerian Customs Excise Dance Band 1979 as a vocalist in the band where he further harnessed his talent and toured the country on several occasions.


Inception of Zzigima

He left the customs exercise band to form "ZZIGIMA" which he coined from the igno phrase "Ozi i g'ama" which means " the message you should know" . His brand of music is deeply rooted African music, backed with igbo traditional music feelings, deep rooted philosophy and blended with fantastic dance steps that made him outstanding in the Nigerian/African music scene.

His Music..

In 1984 he released the album titled "RESPECT AFRICA" which shot him to limelight and easily made him a household name. He further released another album in 1985 titled "Oyibo Mentality" he had further released a total of 10 albums up to this date.

He uses his music to awaken the consciousness of Africans on the preservation of our heritage and culture. This he does by an enviable mix of humor, story telling in Igbo, English and Pidgin English. This has given him an upper hand to be one of the indigenous artists whose popularity cuts across languages, tribe and age barriers. All these as well as his youthfulness, captivating stage artistry and performance ender him to many.

Performances..

He has performed alongside notable musicians like Sir Victor Uwaifor, Fela Anikulapo Kuti and King Sunny Ade.

He alongside his 28 piece band represented the Old Anambra and Imo state on several occasions, one of these being the visit of Late President Nelson Mandella of South Africa to Nigeria, where he thrilled the visiting president and his entourage to the admiration of all.

He has also toured around Africa and the world at large playing music to the admiration of many.

Awards

Bright Chimezie has gained tremendous popularity and almost fanatical followership and acceptance both home and abroad, following which he was crowned the Duke of African Music and other awards so numerous to mention.

Asides Music

Bright Chimezie is currently a member of the Board of Directors of COSON and has been involved in mentoring younger highlife musicians, this he does through the platform of Nigerian Brewries "Hi-life fest".

He is happily married to Chinyere Chimezie and has 5 children.
