Texting while driving is one of the most common causes of accidents in the world today. According to statistics conducted in 2011, it was recorded that the number of drivers using their phones while driving between 5-10 years has increased from 1% to 11%.

Texting while driving is considered as a suicidal action because the victim was the one being careless. Since Mobile phones were introduced, the spate of road accidents had increased drastically. Car accidents that involve texting while driving are mostly associated with youths between the ages of 18-25 years. What are they texting about?

Youths are always on social media trying to keep up with the real world even while driving. For older adults, they don’t experience problems with social media but they experience problems with receiving calls. While driving, it is always advised to be 100% focused on the road while driving, but many people like to think that they can be fast enough to read a text message, and even answer it without focusing on the road.

Many people are aware of the dangers of texting while driving. They are aware that it can lead to a serious road accident, but are they aware that there are many more dangers of texting while driving apart from being involved in a road accident? Let’s find out the dangers of texting while driving.

Risk of being involved in a road accident: It is obvious that being a victim of a road accident is inevitable when you are not fully focused while driving. For a road accident, two things can happen; – You may be the victim of the accident – An innocent bystander or pedestrian can be the victim instead. Many people all over the world lose their lives because they have allowed their mobile phones to control them while driving instead of the other way round. The possibility of getting into a fatal accident while texting and driving are higher than the other causes of road accidents.

Being imprisoned or fined for breaking rules: ‘Do not text while driving’ is a common road law in every country of the world. Many countries in the world have rules and regulations that abhor its citizens from texting while driving because the government understands the danger involved in it. In different countries, there are several punishments instituted for persons who text while driving and they are caught.

Endangering the lives of innocent pedestrians: Persons who text and drive expose not only themselves to accidents but they also endanger the lives of innocent bystanders or pedestrians who use the road on a daily basis. A pedestrian can be standing on his or her own and a distracted driver can hit the person.

Exposing yourself to the statistics of persons who contribute to traffic accidents: Most road accidents are caused by road users who drive and text. In the cause of driving and texting, there is a very high possibility that the person may be involved in a car accident. There are already millions of persons, who die every day from road accidents, why contribute to the number when you can be careful.

Damaging your car: If involved in a car accident, you have to incur all the expenses involved in getting the car fixed. These road accidents mostly can be avoided if people learn that there are dangers involved in texting while driving. And apart from incurring the costs, your insurance keeps doubling in amount and premium.
