The son of a former Acting President of Nigeria, Prince Ifeamuma-eme Nwafor Orizu has called on Nigerian leaders to reduce dependence on oil but promote policies that will boost agriculture.

Mr Nwafor Orizu observed that oil alone could not sustain the future of Nigeria, especially now that many countries were now producing solar powered vehicles.

He said this while briefing newsmen in Awka, to mark Nigerian Independence at 60.

``Agriculture is the only thing that can sustain Nigeria and provide opportunities for youths to get off the streets.

``The U.S., is powerful today because of food sufficiency. In Nigeria, the cause of revolution, protest and counter protest is basically hunger. A hungry man is an angry man,’’ he said.

Nwafor Orizu commended President Muhammadu Buhari for doing his best to promote agriculture.

``Anambra, Gov. Willie Obiano also called for `Aku-luo-uno’, as well as Ugbo-azuno, all were geared toward promoting agriculture.

``Gov. Obiano has recorded excellence, not only in terms of infrastructure, but in the area of humanity.

``He has transformed the state into glorious standards. The Airport city and the Conference Centre, when completed will tremendously give the state a pride of place in the world,’’ Nwafor Orizu stressed.

He urged everyone to keep self-interest apart and elect a credible person that would further uphold the dignity and economic policies of the state.

``Indeed, Anambra and Ndi Anambra are the economic pillars of the country. If we get it right in Anambra, Nigeria will stand,’’ Nwafor Orizu said.
