A member of the House of Representatives, Kabiru Adamu, has advised the North to change its attitude.

He noted that most people in the North solely depend on the government to do everything for them.

He stressed that this remains one of the factors delaying the progress of the region.

The lawmaker spoke to DAILY POST on Saturday after he distributed some items to youths in his constituency.

Adamu accused leaders and elders of leaving the youths in total penury.

“I am not happy seeing our youths being wasted even when there are enough rich people in the society. That is the main reason southerners continue to claim that northerners are very lazy set of people in the country”, he said.

The Gusau, Tsafe Federal Constituency representative decried that rich men in the zone only focus on their families and relations.

“No society can definitely progress with such kind of attitude being operated in the North. I am, therefore, calling on the northern elders to change their mindsets for a positive change.

“There is no doubt in saying that the northern region of the country remains the poorest. The elders know this very clearly but have refused to take drastic action in addressing the ugly trend.”

Adamu added that banditry in Zamfara State was partly caused by leaders who failed to assist the youths.

Yes I know, I was raised in the core north, the major problem is that they breed like pigs and the illiteracy rate is crazy. But the mentality is the same everywhere, if they're not farming or trading they're looking for welfare from government.

I'm from the east, but have traveled the length and breath of the north, just came back from Kano ystdy sef.
As much as our own leaders are thieves too, d one in the north is worse abeg, just that because of the feudal nature of Islam, they rarely complain about their leaders or write petitions etc while southerners are exactly the opposite.
You wonder what they do with funds for stuff like Universal basic education etc cos you come to a whole local govt, you see only 2 or 3 primary schools.
Local govt allocation is sometimes withdrawn in cash and shared on a table.

The North needs to relax its "mental" laws to enable it grow at same pace as its partners..

If dubai could relax its alchohol laws to stimulate its economy despite being a strong muslim country, it goes to show the extent it is striving for growth.

Cultural changes is the fastest absorber of employment.. the internet alone has employed over 1 billion people, but the same Northern leaders held a meeting recently delibrating on banning it .

Go to Kano and other major northern cities,you get to see multitude of youths(not even older ppl) who cannot make a sentence of English cos northern leaders have wickedly denied their masses education while their own children go to the best schools abroad and in Nigeria.
These people are already disabled cos effectively,he is already excluded from any job that requires spoken English or ability to read and write.
He can't also function anywhere outside the north.
