Applying for a Student Visa to Study in the UK? You Will Need These Important Documents.

Applying to a University in the UK and getting accepted is only the first step on your study Journey. As an international student, you would also have to apply for a student visa that gives you access into the UK. There are two types of UK student visas: Short term study visa and tier 4 (general) student visa.
When applying for a Student Visa, you will need to submit a variety of documents to support your application and your documents must meet the requirements to prevent a visa refusal. The documents can be originals or copies. I have compiled a list of the Six (6) important documents needed for the student visa application. Check out the list below:

1. Completed Visa Application Form
Every Applicant would be required to complete an online visa application form and input all the necessary information, such as name, age, address, nationality etc. Through this, applicants would be given the list of other required documents needed for the application of the student visa.

2. Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies
After being accepted by the University you applied to, you will be given a confirmation of acceptance for studies number (CAS Number) and a visa letter that confirms that you have accepted your offer to study at the University you applied for. CAS numbers are specific to every applicant and a time frame of 3 months will be given to the applicants to apply for the visa before the CAS number and visa letter expires.

3. Qualifications
You will be required to submit academic qualifications that include your academic transcripts, certificate of graduation and other certificates. These qualifications focus on your academic experience and accomplishments. Any document not in English or welsh will need to be translated into English by a professional translator or translation company.

4. Certificate of English Proficiency
Although Nigeria is an English-speaking country, most countries don’t consider it an English-speaking country and still require prospective students to submit a certificate to show excellent English Language proficiency. International students are required to take an English standardized test to assess the applicants’ level of English language competency. There are various English standardized tests such as IELTS, TOEFL or UCLES.

5. Passport & Photograph
You must submit your original, valid passport in support of your visa application. Your passport must contain at least one full page that is blank on both sides. If your passport is close to the expiration date, it is better you renew it before starting the visa application process or before you travel to the UK because it is easier and less stressful.
You will also need to provide recent passport photographs, taken within the past six months and in color.

6. Financial Evidence
As part of your visa application, you must prove that you have sufficient funds to cover the cost of the tuition and other expenses. Financial evidence can take the form of pay slips or bank account statements for the last six months showing you can cover the cost of tuition fees, accommodation and living costs. If you are being sponsored, you will be required to submit a letter confirming your financial sponsorship and the sponsors bank account statements.

I hope this list has been helpful and you now know the most important documents that would be required while applying for a student visa to study in the UK. If you find this information helpful, share with a friend & tag someone who may be interested.
