Drama: VP candidate addresses presidential debates in Hausa
From Taiwo Amodu, Abuja
Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Nigerians, who thronged Transcorp Hilton Hotel, venue of presidential debate organised by Nigeria Election Debate Group, yesterday were stunned as one of the vice- presidential candidates did not express himself in English Language.
Moderator of the programme, Eugenia Abu, had disclosed that the vice presidential candidate of United National Party for Development (UNDP), Alhaji Galadima samari, would need the assistance of an intepreter to translate his message to English.

Zamari, who spoke inHausa disclosed that he started politics in 1967 as a member of the defunct Action Group but later moved to the Great Nigeria Peoples Party in the second Republic because a party rooted in the southern part of the country was not acceptable in the North. He assured Nigerians that under the UNDP-led Federal Government, wealth would be equitably distributed.

And if you find it hard to believe,

Vice presidential candidate can’t speak English
By Olusola Fabiyi and Olamileka Lartey, Abuja
Tuesday, 29 Mar 2011

The vice-presidential candidate of the United National Party Development, Alhaji Galadima Samari, stunned those present at the debate organised by the Nigeria Election Debate Group for vice presidential candidates of some political parties, in Abuja on Monday as he used an interpreter to convey his message.

Samari was among those slated to speak at the first batch of the debate organised for the vice presidential candidates of four political parties.

Others are the vice presidential candidate of the Mega Progressive Peoples Party, Alhaji Rasheed Shitta-Bey; Alhaji Lawal Kasimu Funtua(Social Democratic Mega Party) and Mr. Gabriel Ogbonna of the National Transformation Party.

When he arrived, Samari had told the organisers of the event that he would need an interpreter, which they (the organisers) had considered a joke.

But when it was time to go on stage, Samari, who spoke only in Hausa language, insisted that he would not go on the stage unless his request was granted.

It was at this stage that the organisers knew that the vice-presidential candidate meant business.

Before granting him his request, the organisers had to arrange for where the interpreter would sit so as not to affect the sitting arrangement already put in place.

Anybody can aspire to rule Nigeria. The only qualification needed is an astute thieving brain. You do not need education, finesse, intellect or eloquence. Its not necessary. How many past leaders boasted any of these qualities? Just have the courage to pilfer in billions. Just don't be scarred of 10 digit figures in dollars. Then you are ready to rule. Did you watch the Lagos State Governor's debate? Did you see the candidates? Lord have mercy.

Stop contradicting yourself. , you wanted every tom, dikck and harry to seek political offices, yet you are complaining about lagos governorship debate . In all sense of truthfulness, fashola was outstanding because of his vast knowledge.imagine what fashola would have been if he was just a pry six dropout .Akala,i guess
Re: Vice Presidential Candidate Can't Speak In English by lafile(m): 1:16pm On Mar 29, 2011
I am not contradicting myself. I was just showing how shameful it is that people like the VP candidate in question and some of the governorship candidates at the debate are bold enough to contest. People that obviously have nothing to offer. It shows how low Nigeria has fallen. Maybe I didn't make myself clear, but I do not want every TOM, DICK and HARUNA to seek public office.

My brother neither am I. I watched the governors debate yesterday in Lagos. Someone promised free education at all levels and didn't have the stats on how much it costs to run a school. Over 2 hours of the debate and the APGA and NCP candidates didnt make sense. No wonder Agbakoba was frustrated. And only to hear of a VP candidate that cant even speak English! What do they take us for?

Re: Vice Presidential Candidate Can't Speak In English by Nobody: 1:52pm On Mar 29, 2011
It's only by setting the standards high that we can expect something positive soonest.how can people of the past expect to influence the present or the future.when i was in primary school, there is this song we used to sing that ''we the children are the leaders of tomorrow '' but here we are,the same leaders  since then are still the ones dying to be president.what a shame !

People like utomi may unlikely win in Nigeria because he's not in pdp and if he later happen to be nominated by such evil party, his dreams will shatter like a pack of cards.
