Newstractor:Everything began with machine language(1s and 0s). Compilers itself are just bits of 1s and 0s running from your computers memory to the processors and then displayed to your screen. When you type on your keyboard, the command is interpreted by your processor and displayed on your screen. Compilers were designed by writing machine codes that will interact with you computer memory, processor and display. Imagine the processor running several bits of ones and zeros to render your screen, then you type your codes and execute, the processor in turn has been programmed(with several bits of 1s and 0s) to interpret certain character sets (captured from punching the keyboard) displayed on your screen to mean certain instruction sets in memory to be fetched and executed by the processor. If you can imagine that java compiler was written in C, then you should be able to work your way down on how C likely came about. It's likely from a programming language lower than it. 1 Like |

Assembly, it's through a process called bootstrapping, a demo compiler is made first then that demo compiler is used to make the main compiler, that's how C and many other old time languages were made. |

Rgade: Assembly language was the lowest human friendly language before machine language. Basically, machine language is a long string of '1' and '0'. So it can be said that machine language code compiled assembly language. |
