On the subject above, who's more superior?

I hope it's chief of the army because I've never heard of defence chief in the news, Is that position potent? because to me Buratai is closer to the president than any military officers today in Nigeria.

Someone even said there are some military officers Buratai do salute is that true?.

Let me start with your last paragraph about Salutation.
Salutation is a form of greeting. A senior officer can salute a junior officer but the junior officer salute first. Salutation doesn't definine superiority.

The present chief of defence staff is a full time General. The chief of army staff is a Lieutenant General.

The chief of army, Airforce and Naval staff are all answerable to the chief of defence staff.

For those comparing chief of defence staff and chief of army staff, is it because they are both army officers?

Note the chief of defence staff may be army, Airforce or navy. So if he is navy, you will start comparing him with chief of naval staff abi?

what you are saying is as it should be...the truth of the matter on ground is that the current chief of defense staff doesn't even know what's going on in the army ranks. Buhari has used his nepotism to make sure of that

I'll advise you speak only of what you know.
what proof do you have about what your saying other than the fact that you feel buratai is more on the news than other services chiefs??
buratai is more on the news doesn't make him more powerful than others.
heirachy and protocols are not something a president would you with.
if buhari wanted things to favour buratai due to nepotism, he'll just retire them all and reappoint buratai as chief of defense staff, thereby promoting him into general rank.
please don't just draw conclusion from speculations, have proof otherwise even a street ediot would deceive you.
