Recently, I received an email from a student whom I did not have the permission to mention his name- but let me call him J. J's email was basically about the fact that he is tired of writing ICAN and with all the sleepless night and several pleasure denials like Owambe and the rest, he still failed all. In his words, "ICAN should go and keep their certificate".

However, when I saw this, I smiled because this is not the first time I have seen students who want to give up. But, when after they follow my advice, share their success stories.

Before I go further, let look at this hypothetical situation.

Let's say you have a 16-year old son who has written SSCE twice and all the papers were Ds and F9s. After observing that he studies for long hours, he does not have time to do other activities. Yet he still failed. What will you do?

Will you call your kid and say WAEC does not like your son?
That 'they' don't want to let him go despite all your effort?
"So, my son, I want you to give up and never write the WAEC / SSCE Exams again".

Or won't you go into fasting and prayer? Then afterwards, investigate what was going on? Then try his level of understanding and use another method of studying?

Won't you keep on encouraging him because he can't proceed with his education without passing SSCE Exams?

So, if this is what you will do for your child, then why do you want to give up at the sight of a small set back?
