Today I visited the ongoing International Worship Centre project in Uyo. The quality of the work done is commendable and it is the best of its kind in the world.

In addition to other key infrastructure and industries we are building, we as a people are raising an altar for our God, even for generations yet unborn.

I'm not a sadist, anti-government or anti-Christian but I think this is one of the misplaced priority we keep having in this country. No government should spend public funds building worship centres whether church or mosque etc.

And to think this is a billion naira project, how does this help the economy of the state? You would say it has provided contract (temporary) jobs for those working there but after the completion, what next? Think of if this money was to be rechannelled in building production industry or empowerment to the people of the state who poverty can clearly be seen staring in their faces. Misplaced priority!!!

He won't be building worship center

Short memory is bad..

Umahi also built what he called International Ecumenical centre....

Moreover he wasted his time on misplaced priority.

Ok

Why not focus on building industries and things that will help your people financially.

Why not leave spiritual things that has the calling for it.

Well done for the work. From what I see, the structure looks standard.

This country and worship centers.

Why can't the put such construction and inspection energy into building industrial hubs in each state or region. Where it is not possible, the should create enabling policies and environment where individuals can use the little they have to start and grow their business.

Hospital, schools, training centers would have been better.

Let the church community build churches while state government focus on infrastructure and a conducive environment for its people...

Politics is about taking decisions popular with the people not necessarily those best for the people.
In Nigeria, things like marriage, religion, entertainment, etc are most popular with the people hence the politicians do things along that line, thats why In the north you hear of mass marriages being sponsored by the govt and in the south massive religious centres being constructed.
A minority may feel upset and argue that better use could be made of scarce resources, but unfortunately, this is what the majority want. Ours is an inherently vacuous society. This is reflected in our cyberspace, issues like the economy, politics and their accompanying hard issues aren't really of interest to the average Nigerian. But marriage, relationship issues, religion and entertainment get the highest allocation of interest on Nigerian cyberspace. Government work with public opinion to maintain or increase their popularity.

Why would a state government be involved in the church building business?
Have all of the desperately needed schools, hospitals, roads, etc., been built?

Same as Northern states, with million of out-of-school kids, building mosques
Why don’t Nigerian governments respect the constitutional provision of a SECULAR nation?!
