Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission.

It was jointly signed by Messrs Sunday Sabiyi and Ojemeri Oisameye, chairmen of the NASS and NASC chapters of PASSAN, respectively.

The workers’ ultimatum to the management expired on March 18.

PASAN, in another letter on Thursday, jointly signed by Sabiyi and Oisameye, and obtained by our correspondent, wondered why the management ignored its 21-day ultimatum.

The workers, therefore, said they could not guarantee industrial harmony if at the end of their fresh 14-day strike notice, the management still ignored their demands.

We have a government that is no longer threatened by strikes and other industrial actions. Wage workers need to be creative in the way they make their demands. Strikes don't seem to be effective. In many cases, they can even be counterproductive. Maybe they should learn from the youths and start protesting and occupying government offices. Instead of this union to strike and stay at home, they could organise a football tournament or a one-month carnival in front of the National Assembly building. That would be more impactful and controversial. Controversy sells! If they organise a carnival and do it successfully for a week with good publicity, the government cannot ignore them. The interesting part is that since they'd be having fun in their sport or carnival protest, no sane government can afford to let that idea be replicated. Collective bargaining would be enhanced through the threats of protest carnivals, road shows, pageantry etc. With the people such shows would attract, the striking workers can even monetize them and further embarass the government by making money in front of their offices, and that would be a clear statement. At worst, they can cook food and sell in front of Aso Rock. The signposts would contain their demands, and they would certainly attract lots of people to buy their cheap food. It will all be part of the protest.

What Buhari can not destroy doesn't exist. Our country has been destroyed and hijacked by thieves.

The interesting thing is that this country has been ruled by most Northerners so no one can come out tomorrow to say an Igbo man destroyed the country.

We have said this few times on this forum.
We reiterate below.....

HOW NIGERIA CAN PAY MINIMUM WAGE COMFORTABLY..........

1. Abolish SECURITY VOTE in NIGERIA. Nigeria will pay N45,000 minimum wage comfortably.

2. a) Abolish CONSTITUENCY PROJECT FUNDS
b) Reduce number of ADVISERS to SENATE PRES(2), HOUSE SPEAKER(2), GOVs(4), PRESIDENT(5), VP(2)
c) Reduce current ALL Political Office Holders PAY CHEQUES by 51.5%, without exception
d) Do away with special remuneration to POLITICAL ADVISERS & PUBLIC SERVANTS e.g; Purchase of Private Vehicles, Houses, granting Govt paid Vacations, paying for 1st & Business Class Transportations, etc, etc...
e) Abolish payment of OVERSEAS MEDICAL BILLS for Political Office Holders.
f) Eliminate PRIVATE PRACTICE in public workforce
g) Eliminate participation of Public Workforce in Partisan Politics.
h) Institute EMPLOYMENT BY MERIT, and eliminate UNDEREMPLOYMENT.
i) Review and eliminate allocation of Govt paid POLITICAL AIDES & SUPPORT STAFF to Political Office Holders.

With (1) + (2) Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N65,000 comfortably

3. Move Nigeria MORE to Private Sector Driven Economy
a) Privatise ALL of Federal Govt PARASTATALS & reduce Federal Direct Funded AGENCIES to 68% of the present.
b) Privatise ALL of STATE Govt PARASTATALS & reduce State Direct Funded AGENCIES to 19% of the present.
c) Reduce current DIRECT LABOUR JOB participation by 49%
d) Encourage more Working Hours until Nigeria economic stabilizes
e) Discourage UNIONISM in Public Workforce

With (1) + (2) + (3), Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N101,500 comfortably.

4) Institute DEATH PENALTY to proven THEFT OF PUBLIC FUNDS no matter how little, and LIFE Jail Sentences for COLLABORATORS.

With (1) + (2) + (3) & (4), Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N203,500 comfortably.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA
END OF DISCUSSION!

I'd substitute 4 for life imprisonment for both offences. Every other thing said makes complete sense and I totally endorse it!
Chioma Adichie,
We are highly honour that your very first and only comment after 2 Years and 9 months of joining Nairaland is to 'totally endorse' one of our posts.
That means a lot.
A better Nigeria is all we want.
God bless you ma!

Interesting!
Whose interest is Rep member Garba Datti Mohammed seeking for making a bill to take out minimum wage from the exclusive list?

Boiling over. Living false life. Legislators living larger than life earning horrendous salaries and allowances. Very few honest public servants can be found in Abuja. Their take home don’t take them home.

In all my years here in UK, I've never experienced industrial action. Industrial action is becoming a regular occurrence in Nigeria and it's almost always due to government's inability to pay workers their salaries/wages and/or pensions, yet one individual in the same govt would embezzle money that could pay hundreds or thousands of civil servants their salaries for years. Why are our people this wicked and heartless. U steal money that both u and ur entire generation could never finish and watch people around u die of hunger, I just can't fathom how some people esp our political leaders reason
